It is always interesting to see how far people travel to attend weddings every weekend at the venue. Last weekend’s couple was from Missouri with guests from North Carolina, Georgia and Kansas. Someone asked how many weddings are from Appanoose County and interestingly enough less than 30% are from Appanoose County all others are from surrounding counties as far as Polk County to the north, Keokuk County to the East, Decatur County to the West and a lot from Northern Missouri. With an average of 40 weddings a year our guests have a big impact in Appanoose County.

Plan the Perfect Wedding at Valley View: A Dream Timeline from Sunrise to Sparkler Send-Off

Planning a wedding can feel overwhelming, but when you have the right venue and a seamless timeline, the day flows beautifully from beginning to end. At Valley View, we’ve seen hundreds of weddings come to life — and we’ve perfected a timeline that gives you all the moments you’ve dreamed of, without feeling overwhelmed.

A timeline shouldn’t be overly detailed and set to exact 0.02 minute or 0.04 minute. It should have buffers for running late on hair and make-up, it should give you time to breathe without creating too many gaps and having people sitting around getting wrinkled.

The Perfect Wedding Day Timeline at Valley View from May to September is:

7:30 AM – Hair & Makeup Begins
The day kicks off bright and early for the bridal party as the glam squad arrives. With plenty of natural light and a spacious bridal suite, getting ready feels relaxed and luxurious.

12:00 PM – Lunch & Arrival of the Guys
A light lunch keeps energy up while the groom and his party arrive and start getting ready. Separate suites ensure everyone has space to relax.

1:00 PM – First Looks
A time for private vows, one of the most intimate times of the day, a moment for the couple before the festivities begin.

1:30 PM – Couple’s Portraits
With our stunning backdrop, this is the perfect time for portraits while everything feels fresh and calm.

2:30 PM – Bridal Party Photos
We gather the whole crew for fun, joyful shots that capture your closest friends and favorite memories.

3:15 PM – Family Photos
Having family photos done before the ceremony lets everyone enjoy cocktail hour later with no interruptions.

4:00PM – Bride Tucked Away
Time for a breath, a touch-up, and a few quiet moments before walking down the aisle.

4:30 PM – Ceremony
Say your vows with the Valley View landscape as your backdrop — timeless, romantic, and completely unforgettable.

5:00 PM – Finish Photos (if needed)
Quick wrap-up shots, if any are still needed post-ceremony.

5:30 PM – Grand Entrance
Your big introduction as newlyweds to cheers and celebration.

5:40 PM – Blessing
A brief moment of gratitude before dinner.

5:45 PM – Dinner Is Served
Guests enjoy a delicious meal while the couple soaks in the joy of the day.

6:30 PM – Toasts
Heartfelt speeches, laughter, and maybe a few happy tears.

6:35 PM – Cake Cutting
A sweet tradition that guests always love.

6:40 PM – First Dances
Your first dance as a married couple, followed by dances with your parents or special loved ones.

7:00 PM – Dance Floor Opens
Let the celebration begin!

8:15 PM – Sunset Photos
Step away for just a few moments to capture the magic of golden hour — some of the most stunning photos of the day.

9:00 PM – Sparkler or Glow Stick Photos
A fun, glowing moment that creates Instagram-worthy memories.

11:50 PM – Last Call
Give guests time for one final drink or dance.

11:55 PM – Couple’s Private Dance
A quiet moment for just the two of you to soak in everything before the night ends.

12:00 AM – Grand Exit
The perfect finish to a perfect day.

The beautiful cross behind Kaitlin was lovingly handmade by our groom, Buddy Asher, especially for their wedding day. ❤️

And now, a piece of their special day will become part of so many more.

Kaitlin and Buddy have graciously donated this beautiful cross to Valley View for future couples to use on their wedding days. We are incredibly grateful for their generosity and truly honored to add something so meaningful to our décor collection.

There’s just something extra special about knowing that as future couples stand in front of this cross to say “I do,” it carries with it a little piece of the love story that brought it here. ❤️

Thank you, Kaitlin and Buddy, for leaving such a beautiful piece of your wedding day with the Valley View family. We will treasure it—and we know many future couples will too!

Live, laugh and love always. ❤️

There are many types of wedding venues—and many types of wedding venue owners.

There are owners who simply provide the venue. There are DIY venues. There are owners who assist when needed, and there are hands-on owner/operators.

And then there’s me. ❤️

I don’t say that to sound vain or arrogant. I say it because, for me, Valley View has always been about something more than owning a wedding venue.

Thirty-seven years ago, my own wedding day was a little bit of a train wreck, overshadowed by tragedy. There were things that happened that day that no amount of planning could have prevented. And when Greg first had the idea of building Valley View, I knew exactly what I wanted my role to be.

I wanted to help other brides have the wedding experience I wish I could have had.

I can’t control everything. I can’t control Mother Nature, unexpected emergencies, or all the crazy things life can throw at us. But I can help dot the i’s and cross the t’s. I can offer guidance. I can help with setup. I can anticipate problems before they become problems. And I can take some of that stress off the bride, groom and their families so they can actually enjoy this incredible weekend.

With a little luck and a whole lotta love, our couples are only going to do this once. I want to help them get it right the first time. ❤️

Maybe that passion was passed down to me. For more than 40 years, I watched my mom pour her heart into wedding cakes, working tirelessly to make each one a beautiful showpiece for someone’s special day. I grew up watching how much those little details mattered.

At Valley View, we carry that same philosophy into everything we do.

We offer a huge selection of décor for our couples to use. We hold our Decoration Showcase so they can come in, see everything displayed, make their selections and watch their vision start coming together.

Then, when wedding weekend arrives, we do the setup.

No bride spending hours answering, “Where do you want this?”

No mom trying to decorate tables while also worrying about a hundred other things.

No bridal party wondering what they should be doing.

Taking that responsibility off their shoulders doesn’t just help the bride—it helps the parents and the entire wedding party enjoy the weekend too.

And then there’s rehearsal.

While many venues across the country are moving away from rehearsals, I still believe rehearsal is one of the most important parts of the wedding weekend. I’m there to help guide it because when everyone understands where to stand, when to walk, what their role is and what happens next, wedding day simply flows better.

After more than 300 weddings, I’ve learned a lot.

I’ve seen a lot of things! 😂

We’ve tried new ideas. We’ve discovered things that definitely don’t work. We’ve modified traditions when we found a better way. We’ve learned what creates some absolutely gorgeous photos, what makes a timeline flow better, and where a little extra planning can prevent a whole lot of stress.

And believe it or not, we are still learning something new almost every weekend.

We’ve also added some wonderful new staff to our Valley View team to help everything run even more smoothly—and, yes, take a little of the burden off me too. ❤️

Because at the end of every wedding weekend, the goal is still the same one I had when Greg first dreamed up this crazy idea:

Help our couples have a beautiful, wonderful, stress-free start to their happily ever after.

Valley View isn’t just a building we unlock for the weekend.

This is personal to me.

It always has been. ❤️

Live, laugh and love always.
