For this week’s arrangement, I wanted to feature some of my own seedling dahlias, but when I went out to the garden there weren’t that many, so supplemental dahlias were used too. The 2nd pic has mine circled. 4th yr purple, 2nd yr orange, Verrone’s 14-30, RM Moonlight dahlias, Sangria celosia, procut Gold Lite sunflowers, lavender, basil and marigold greens. In an antique crockery spittoon. Sept. 8, 2025.

Come treat yourself and/or a friend with fresh flowers! As always, the address is in the main bio and the post will be updated when sold out. Wanted to do an arrangement with the dahlias that are SUPER fleeting and don’t last more than a couple days when cut. These collarette varieties are super happy and the bees adore them so it’s always good to have a few around. This one proved challenging, as I started in a different vessel that WAS NOT working out with just the floral frog I had in there. I almost just trashed the entire thing and then thought, “No… give them the limelight, change tactics.” It turned out happy, and will probably be mostly dead by tomorrow evening. One of those blooms popped off the stem right as I was about to take a picture and is just resting in there. 🤦‍♀️ Anyhoo… the big one is KAs Lavender Blush along with Ferncliff Dolly and Bumble Rumble. (Literally had to fight off some bumbles for that one.) Also has snaps, basil, celosias, gomphrena and a tiny bit of eucalyptus. (Fail pic in comments) August 22, 2025

I’ve been collecting Sweet Pea seed. When the pods reach the ready state on the plant they spring open and scatter seed far and wide. Great for propagation in the wild, but not so much if you’re trying to save seed. Some varieties are prolific seed makers, and some are most definitely not. I’m looking at you… King’s Ransom! So after losing two of the three seed pods that had formed so far to the spontaneous spring action, I put an organza bag on the one that was next to dry up. Worked like a charm and caught 4 lovely seeds. The count is now up to 7 seeds with a couple more pods forming.

Arrangements that went to our county fair this week. So much fun with flowers.

King’s Ransom Sweetpeas in the sunset. Enjoying the golden light while I start cutting a few of the more hardy things for our county fair. (My statice is a big tangled mess from our storm the other day, so it’s getting a good trim!) Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
