For this retirement celebration, we transformed an ordinary backyard into a welcoming space where guests could relax, connect, and celebrate. We used a few simple design principles that made all the difference:

There’s something about an empty fireplace after winter that can make a whole room feel unfinished.

For this fireplace, I wanted to bring back the warmth and ambiance of a fire — just in a softer way for spring. The mirror helped reflect light and add depth to the dark opening, while layered green glass, p***y willows, and candlelight kept the space feeling warm, collected, and alive after fire season.
