Hurricane Erin Update
Wednesday, Aug. 20
8:30 a.m.
Today and Thursday are expected to have the greatest impacts from Hurricane Erin, which is currently a Category 2 storm offshore. Due to the size of the storm, impacts will be felt far away from the cone, so remain prepared and stay weather aware!
-Morehead City remains under a Coastal Flood Warning and we anticipate there may be flooded roadways. Never drive through standing water - turn around, don't drown!
-Please stay out of the ocean and sound, whether on a boat or wading in.
-As a general precaution, ensure your hurricane preparedness kit is ready. Even if you don't need it this round, we are entering the peak of hurricane season in a few weeks, and it is best to be prepared.
-Stay up to date with Morehead City Gov, and the National Weather Service.

Hurricane Erin Update
Monday, Aug. 18
1:30 p.m.
Morehead City officials continue to monitor potential impacts from Hurricane Erin this week, including a coastal flood watch, and water on roadways. Although the hurricane is slated to remain offshore, it is a large system and impacts will be felt well away from the center of the cone.
We anticipate we will see the majority of impacts Wednesday-Thursday.
Please keep the following items in mind:
-You're encouraged to have your hurricane preparedness kit ready now. If you do not use it for this event, it will be ready for a future storm system. Visit our website for ideas: www.moreheadcitync.org/298/Hurricane-Preparedness
-If you see water on a roadway, turn around, don't drown! It can be difficult to see how much water is there, and that can cause damage to your vehicle or risk your life. Seek an alternate route.
-We recommend you stay out of the water for the next few days - whether on a boat or swimming. There will be impacts felt in both the ocean and sound for this event, based on waves and wind.
-Follow only verified sources of information, such as official platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Threads,) or our website at moreheadcitync.org, along with the US National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City NC.
-Remain prepared and weather aware!
