PUBLIC COMMENT
• Views and opinions expressed are those of the authors and do not reflect those of the Town of Mooresville, Town officials and Town Employees.
• People who comment shall have no expectation of privacy. Their comments are public records retained and subject to disclosure in accordance with applicable laws and Town policies.
• Town Social Media policies are subject to amendment or
modification at any time without prior notice.
• Violation of comment standards may result in a public user's comments or postings that are in violation of such standards being removed from Town Social Media sites.
• Public users should not use the site for emergency communications or when another form of notification or request is required.
• Any comments or posts determined to be made by an automated source or spambot, shall be hidden or removed. Moderation assistants, such as Facebook Moderation Assistant, may hide or remove a comment based on that moderation assistant’s guidelines, such as swearing and threats. Those comments are hidden or removed by the Moderation Assistants and not the Town of Mooresville.
• To attempt to prevent digital fraud through malicious links, all external links posted by any user, other than authorized Town Employees speaking on behalf of the Town and linking to the Town’s official websites and resources, shall be hidden or removed. All comments or postings shall be retained in accordance with Town policies and applicable state laws. Public comments posted on Town Social Media sites may be hidden or removed if they do not meet content-neutral comment standards. Content-neutral comment standards include notice that the site is a moderated online discussion site, and the Town reserves the right to hide or remove comments or postings that contain the following:
• Comments or postings not related to items directly within the jurisdiction or authority of the Town of Mooresville (i.e., not pertaining to items controlled by the Town, or comments related to issues under the jurisdiction or authority of other governmental entities, such as the county, state or federal government);
• External links of any kind;
• Profane language, defamatory statements, or nudity on pictures or attachments;
• Comments that target or disparage a person or group of people based on ethnicity, race, color, religion, gender, gender expression, age, national origin, physical or mental disability, marital status, sexual orientation, military status, political orientation, or any other characteristic protected by law;
• Comments or postings that defame, abuse, harass, stalk, threaten or otherwise violate the legal rights of others;
• Comments or postings that incite violence of any kind;
• Advocacy of illegal activity or activity that compromises the safety or security of the public;
• Comments or postings that include spam or advertisements;
• Infringements of copyrights, trademarks, or other intellectual property or information that is deemed proprietary information under state or federal law; and
• Endorsements of political parties, candidates, or groups. All comments or postings that are hidden or removed from Town Social Media sites shall be retained in accordance with the retention and disposition schedules issued by the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, Division of Archives and Records as adopted by the Town Board.
