Loving my new commute to work!
Here is some wedding day advice, while I "commute" to our new floral studio I built in my backyard.

1. Stay hydrated! On your wedding day, make sure to drink lots of water. It's a long day and especially if you consume "adult beverages", it's important to drink lots of water to keep your energy up through the whole day.

2. Wear (or bring) comfortable shoes. It's not surprising to see couples get married in sneakers or boots, but if you choose to wear dress shoes or heels, make sure to have an extra pair of comfy shoes to change into.

3. Plan Breakfast and Lunch. Similar to drinking water, plan to eat whenever something is offered and make sure you have food during "getting ready" time. Pre-order sandwich platters & have someone pick them up. Make sure both you and your partner make a plan for meals during the day.

4. Live in the moment! There is nothing comparable to your wedding day. It's such a special memory once it's in the past. So make sure that you have your timeline all planned out with every detail so you can enjoy every moment of your big day! (A planner/coordinator can make sure it all happens as intended!)

"I don't like roses!" is what this bride said to me when discussing her floral design. She wanted seasonal wildflowers sourced from local flower farms. "Absolutely!" we replied, and created a design less focused on specific flowers and more focused on what was growing in Early September.

We made different centerpiece styles - table gardens (no visible container) and bud vase centerpieces (love our extensive bud vase collection). We attached flower buds to the welcome sign and put vases inside the card box.

The couple was so thrilled with how everything came together!

This design really pulled a garden-y vibe and we are so here for it!

What should be the RSVP date on your wedding invitation?

6 weeks before your wedding!

We advise setting your RSVP date for 6 weeks before your wedding. Why? Because many vendors need your final headcount within 1 month of your wedding. This includes your venue, caterer, bar, florist, rentals & wedding planner/coordinator. We want you to have 2 weeks from your RSVP date to follow up with the guests who havent responded so you can have an accurate head count on time (no surprises). We also want you to have enough time to put together your guest's seating assignments so we can get that seating chart in order.

There are still plenty of things to do after figuring out your final guest count - so give yourself time.

Wanna see some Baby's breath clouds at Camelot Meadows.

Designing this wedding was so fun! The couple requested all the baby's breath with white roses. We made baby's breath runners for the long tables, we attached it to the top of gold metal stands for the round tables, a large floor garden for the sweetheart table and we made a statement piece - large 5ftx3ft hanging baby's breath cloud ceiling installation for their cocktail hour.

1. Choose your preferred Season- Talk to your fiance about whether you want to get married in the Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter. We advise being less specific to the month and choosing the Season you want to get married, then choose your date once you find out what is available at the venue you select.

2. Decide what location you want - ie: Charlotte, Asheville, the Mountains, Destination - Are you getting married locally? Do you want your wedding backdrop to include the city, country, mountains, or beach? Do you want everyone to travel to a destination?

3. Come up with a budget - Knowing how much you can afford to spend is critical to successfully planning your wedding. Talk to your fiance and anyone else who will be contributing to the cost of your wedding.

4. Create your guest list - The guest list directly impacts the cost of the wedding. The more guests, the more expensive. Write out a list of names you plan to invite and your goal head count. This will be important when choosing your venue to ensure the space can accommodate your guests.

You should LOVE your bridal bouquet! It's such an essential piece for every bride. That's why we love to find a way to continue to showcase your bouquet throughout the reception. For this wedding, we repurposed the Bridal Bouquet as the centerpiece for their Sweetheart table. With a little added greenery & flowers and some votives, it's a complete tablescape.

Ever wonder where the term "honeymoon" came from??

"In Pagan times when a man and woman gad secured the agreement of their respective families to "plight their troth" - (that is to unite and be true to each other). A great feast funded by the bride's parents was held in the communal Mead Hall, their equivalent of the local pub, where each publicly exchanges their vows to each other.

After this feast, both Bride and the Groom were absolved of all of their communal responsibilities for a period of 28 days - a full lunar cycle. During this period, they were accorded total privacy and were provided with as much 'Mead' (the potential fermented honey drink much loved by warriors) as they demanded in order to stimulate their affections.

This period of time became known as the 'Honey-Moon' and is the origin of the custom we observe today."

Did you know when you shop at 1-800-flowers you are actually paying more for your order, getting less and giving your money to a large corporation?

1-800-flowers charges you a $14.99 service fee and an additional $2.99 for a Saturday delivery. When you click the service fee icon they show a picture of a florist hand delivering your order and explain that your order is hand delivered by a florist. While that is true.

They do not give the delivering florist that $15.00 service charge to deliver or the $2.99 for the saturday delivery. In fact, they do not give the delivering florist anything to deliver. They also keep 27 percent of the posted price of the flowers and give the florist making the order no delivery fee and 73 % of the bouquet price to make and deliver your arrangement.

If your order is $69.99 plus the service fee of $14.99 plus the $2.99 saturday charge, you pay $87.97 plus tax.

The florist is given $51.08.

You are then getting a $41.08 arrangement and $10 to deliver.

Shop Local get a better product and put your money into your community and help a small business keep jobs local rather than help a big corporation get bigger.

01/27/2023

One of my favorite wedding planners & fellow member of the Association of Bridal Consultants wrote this in regards to a post in a wedding group where a bride was looking for a wedding coordinator for $600.

https://www.facebook.com/100063601207200/posts/618686860261349/?sfnsn=mo&extid=a&mibextid=6aamW6

Truly everyone has a budget...
Just saw a forum request for a coordinator...

Let's breakdown that $600 request budget:
- $100 for an assistant (*friend/family technically about $8 per hour for a 12 hour day because its not safe to do an event solo)
-$100 (office supplies, gas, food, taxes, etc)
* not including any decor they might supply

=$400 / average 40 hours of planning & 12 hours day of event = $10 per hour

Min wage in NC currently is $7.25ph

We all started somewhere and yes, 22 years ago $600 was a good starting rate for a simple "day of" leave after cake cutting fee... but then, we got educated and learned that we as planners could still be held liable of situations even after we left due to poor planning or failure to plan the entire start to finish (we as planners should be one of the last to leave an event site to assure all is well nor shiuld we ever work alone)

It's all about education not only for couples but for up & coming planners, other vendors and venues to know Average starting prices for a newer planner should be $25ph minimum, average true cost is more like $45-65ph but their values range $100-$300ph due to experience & education...plus their team

Companies must cover their overhead costs, business expenses, advertising plus value their time away from their family and friends...

I'm happy to offer complimentary budget consultations to couples or venues, or sit with any planner up & coming to review their pricing or company strategy... I only wish more would join professional organizations & become more educated instead of crowd-sourcing & googling

Again I truly understand we all have a budget but a marriage costs $60, a wedding is as big of an experience & memory you want to create...

Budget accordingly, especially on the ONE vendor that should be there the longest amount of time that day from start-to-finish, the one there rehearsal & Wedding day, the one vendor you'll spend the most time with... the one that tells everyone what to do, when & how... the one that truly creates the magic by pulling it all together, they can't do it without a team of vendors but they typically are the glue of your day making it run smoothly
