The post we were dreading to make…
Sometime around 1990, Jr started smoking and selling BBQ in Mock’s Grocery parking lot during the Renaissance Festival.
In mid- 2001, after Jr’s retirement from Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, he set up shop behind the meat counter at Mock’s Grocery - serving bbq and all the fixings to go! Around the same time Jr and his family started catering weddings and other events around the areas. Word of mouth was the best advertising!
In 2018 when Mock’s Grocery sold to new owners (after 80 years in business), The Prairie Place was born out of a need for a commercial kitchen. Jr’s BBQ Trailer was relocated to our property just west of Mock’s Grocery and has operated as a food trailer for the best BBQ in the west since then. In addition, the Mock’s made a decision to use the building’s open space, not for storage as originally intended, but as a rental venue for parties, meetings, rehearsal dinners, and even small weddings. Jr continues to offer catered bbq & “anything but BBQ” menu items at the venue for interested clients.
A special thanks to Shilaya Buffalo and all of our previous employees for their years of dedicated service to the food truck operations.
However, due to skyrocketing food costs, competition, and location, the Mock’s will be closing Jr’s BBQ Trailer effective May 2, 2026. There is great appreciation to all of our customers we have served every day for their lunch needs and to those just stopping by for a visit! Many of you have become like family and we have loved taking care of you.
Jr WILL CONTINUE the BBQ business but will strictly operate out of The Prairie Place for all of your catering needs and special pickup orders. You will be able to get all his BBQ specialties plus his famous Jr’s Secret Potato and Homemade Banana Pudding with a 24-hour notice. For now, just call or text to 936-524-2045 to order your BBQ favorites or venue rental. Always the best high quality food and great customer service!
