Today marks one week since my wife, my best friend, and my partner for life left this world. I will never forget this date because it was also our 39th wedding anniversary.

I do want to take a moment to share my family’s gratitude, appreciation, and most heartfelt thanks for the responses we have received over the past week through social media, emails, cards, texts, and phone calls. I am truly blown away by the continued and never-ending support I’ve been given. It truly means more than I can put into words and has touched our souls.

We will never forget her kind and genuine spirit. Her memories will stay with us for the rest of our lives. Her legacy will shine through our four daughters and our grandchildren for years to come.

We are so thankful and truly blessed to be surrounded by friends and family members who loved her for who she was.

A very special THANK YOU to Jim Atticks at Corl Funeral Chapel for arranging a private ceremony for us, and a HUGE shout-out to Ashley & Brian from Brian Nicklaus Jewelry in Greensburg for bringing my vision to life by presenting my four daughters with four beautiful, customized rings to honor her memory. Each ring features their birthstone, Barbara’s birthstone, and two linked forget-me-not flowers, a symbol of Alzheimer’s awareness, love, remembrance, and the lasting connection we have with those we love. A beautiful way to keep their mother close to their hearts.

And certainly, a heartfelt thank you to the folks at Bridges Hospice — second to none.

THANK YOU ALL for helping make this extremely difficult and sad chapter of our lives a little more bearable and for giving us strength as we move forward.

It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I share the passing of my beloved wife, Barbara (Barbie) Shojaie, at the age of 59.

Those who knew Barbie knew how caring, giving, loving, and talented she was. She touched countless lives through her kindness, her involvement in our community, her love for children, and her incredible gift for making everyone feel welcomed and valued.

When Barbie was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer’s at the age of 53, our lives changed forever. My four daughters and I already had an understanding of Alzheimer’s, having cared for Barbie's mother with the same disease for seven years, but nothing could have prepared us to hear that diagnosis so early in life. Losing someone so young is heartbreaking, but watching the love of our lives slowly decline over the years brought a different kind of pain - one that is difficult to put into words.

Alzheimer’s gradually took away many of the precious moments that Barbie should have been able to experience. She was unable to fully participate in our daughters' weddings, hold and cherish her grandchildren the way she would have wanted, and enjoy so many of life's joyful milestones. However, even as the disease progressed, the love she had for her family never disappeared.

Family was everything to Barbie and she exemplified this through her actions every single day. No matter how busy or challenging life became, she always made time for her daughters, her family, and the people she loved.

Barbie taught me more than she ever realized. Because of her, I became a better husband, father, businessman, and person. She was my partner through every challenge and every blessing. She stood by my side while we built our business, raised our four daughters, cared for family members, and faced life's many hardships together.

Today, I have lost my life partner, my wife, the mother of my children, and my very best friend. There are no words that can fully express the sorrow and heartbreak I feel. Amidst that pain, I am also deeply thankful and blessed. I had the privilege of sharing my life with an extraordinary woman whose love, strength, and devotion enriched every day of my life. Her legacy lives on in our four daughters, who embody her strength, compassion, and unconditional love.
I will carry Barbie in my heart forever. I will cherish our memories, honor the values she lived by, and remain grateful for every moment we shared.

Rest peacefully, Barbie. You were loved beyond measure and will be missed more than words can ever say.

I would also like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the caring team at Bridges Hospice for the compassion, kindness, and support they provided to Barbie and our family. Their care meant more to us than words can express.
