We do not post videos of our snakes eating here, but we have a good reason! Even with content warnings, people who do not wish to see this often come across it unexpectedly. This can turn people off towards snakes who may have otherwise been more open minded.

Snakes, like other carnivores, need to eat meat. However, since they require whole prey (meaning they need the meat, organs, bones, and more!) Their food still looks like the animal they are eating, and this can be harder to watch for some people. Our snakes at Beyond the Bug eat frozen/thawed rats, mice, chicks, quail, and rabbits. For now, you will not see posts of our snakes eating. Perhaps it is something we will revisit when we launch our YouTube channel and post longer-form content! Is that something you would like to see?

Did you know that enrichment isnt just for animals in zoos? All animals benefit from enrichment, including our pets!

Harness training is one of many ways to provide stimulation to our feline friends. This allows your cat to explore the outdoors while keeping them and surrounding wildlife safe. It is also a fantastic way to bond!

Why shouldn't we take turtles out of the wild? Well, for starters, wild animals have homes like we do! Their homes may not have four walls, but they still have areas they know as their home. When we take wildlife in as pets, we risk unintentionally harming those animals. Many, like box turtles, require specialized care.

Bubbles is a great example of what can happen when they do not recieve proper care. Because of the lack of proper lighting and nutrition she had growing up, her shell grew deformed. This prevents her from doing what box turtles do best - closing up into their shells! Thankfully, Bubbles (and her friends Blossom and Butrercup) now have a happy life here at Beyond the Bug.

Happy Thursday from Smaug the chaco golden knee tarantula! She is enjoying a tasty superworm that she hunted down using her extremely sensitive sense of touch! All of those hairs on her body help her to understand her surroundings. Despite having 8 eyes, most tarantulas have poor eyesight.
