As of last night Cirque Matisse will no longer have shows at the Brave Bull. The male owner of the venue walked into the dressing room before the show..he looked at a performer's breasts & then left. This is unacceptable. This is clear predatory behavior. The performer left as they rightly felt violated& unsafe. The rest of cast felt the same. Upon bringing this up to management ,& it is family run..they did not take our concerns seriously. They felt since he always does it, it's ok..They felt since the performer was going to strip anyway it's ok. It is not EVER ok regardless if performers are doing burlesque or drag.
It was also brought up that the bathrooms don't have a door into the restroom itself & the stalls don't lock. This doesn't seem like an oversight, but in light of recent events..designed that way for easy access & lack of privacy.
The Brave Bull staff then also talked badly about Tyra Sanchez Winner of RuPaul's Drag Race Season 2 & event tonight, to a guest at the show. They called her a "Nasty Bitch". A venue that will bad mouth their own guests in addition to putting patrons/performers safety at risk..is not a venue to support.
We at Cirque Matisse are saddened to have to find a new, safe space to host our shows, but performer's safety is our top priority
We are still performing at festivals & other private events while we search for our new home.
This post is be a caution to other's about the Brave Bull..enter at your own risk.
Love & Pasties,
The Cirque Matisse Family
