Italjet may have recently re-emerged as a serious contender in the Hot-Rod scooter category with its “Dragster” series of hi performance machines but they have a long history of speed and competition.

“WORLD SPEED RECORDS AND UNCONVENTIONAL PUBLICITY”

“At the end of the year, on the Monza circuit, Tartarini personally set several World Speed Records using a three-wheeled cycle-car of his own design. The machine featured two steering wheels at the front and a driven rear wheel, powered by a liquid-cooled CZ 250 engine. Heavy rain prevented him from completing the full programme of record attempts, but the results he achieved were still significant.

Choosing to compete in a category virtually unknown in Italy, and one in which the existing records dated back many years to the United Kingdom, reflected Tartarini’s unique promotional philosophy. His goal was always to generate the maximum possible impact with minimal financial cost, using bold, unconventional and eye-catching methods rather than traditional advertising.

The Monza record attempt embodied this perfectly: a daring technical experiment, a headline-grabbing stunt and a powerful statement of Italjet’s creativity and ambition.”

Remembering Tonia-Bern Campbell, loving wife and Bluebird teammate of Donald Campbell…

"It was whilst performing at the Savoy in December 1958 that she met British Land Speed legend Donald Campbell CBE. They were married a few days later at Caxton Hall on the 24th December. Tonia immediately settled into being a member of the Bluebird team, and was given the nickname 'Fred'. She put a temporary hold on her singing career, and accompanied Donald on many of his record attempts, most notably in 1964 to Australia, where he broke both the Land and Water Speed Records in the same year.
Tonia always described Donald as her soulmate and the love of her life. The pair had a passionate but volatile relationship - on the one side, the chic Belgian singer and, on the other, the dashing racing driver.
After Donald Campbell's accident on Coniston Water in 1967, whilst attempting a new Water Speed Record in the Bluebird K7 hydroplane, Tonia returned to her singing career helped and encouraged by Maurice Chevalier. She emigrated to America, eventually living in the mountains above Los Angeles.
She continued to perform at top theatres and cabaret clubs around the world until she was in her late 80s.
She appeared several times on television's Val Doonican Show and The Benny Hill Show.
She married English comedian and actor Bill Maynard on 4th September 1989 and later divorced in 1998.
It is her wishes to have her ashes scattered on Coniston Water to be reunited with Donald, where he now rests beside the lake." From her 2021 obituary
