MAMGA FEST SET FOR SATURDAY
The Mobile Area Mardi Gras Association will present MAMGA Fest 2026, a Juneteenth celebration, on Saturday, June 20, at The MAMGA Den.
The event will begin with a Juneteenth celebration motorcade at noon. The entry fee is $25, and organizations interested in taking part may call 251-382-8214.
A block party will follow from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at The MAMGA Den, 305 MAMGA Drive in Mobile. The celebration will include music, educational programming, family activities and reflections on African American history, culture, resilience and achievement.
Juneteenth, celebrated nationally on June 19, commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. It marks the day in 1865 when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that enslaved African Americans were free, more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.
The holiday became a federal holiday in 2021 and is often observed through music, parades, festivals, educational events, family gatherings and reflections on freedom, equality and justice.
State Rep. Napoleon Bracy, the 2024 Grand Marshal, will serve as MC and host for MAMGA Fest. Mobile musician Manieo “Multi” Parrish is scheduled to perform.
The program will also include a presentation on the history of the Mobile Area Mardi Gras Association by past president Eric Finley.
