CAPTAIN ISSUES MARDI GRAS TIPS
Captain Stan Ladnier, MPD Central Precinct
Mardi Gras begins next Friday, January 30. The kickoff of Mardi Gras also coincides with Senior Bowl week; therefore, the Senior Bowl parade will roll prior to the Conde Cavaliers parade, which starts at 6:30 p.m. The Senior Bowl concert, featuring Muscadine Bloodline, will take place in Mardi Gras Park at 7:30 p.m.
In preparation for the Mardi Gras season, here are a few friendly tips:
• Only state-registered Low-Speed Vehicles with current tag, registration and insurance are allowed on city streets. These vehicles are also required to obey all traffic laws.
• If you need police assistance during a parade, uniformed officers can be found at every intersection along the parade route.
• For those bringing small children to the parades, place a small card in their pocket with your contact information should you get separated. If they're old enough, help them memorize your phone number. All lost children will be taken to the Central Precinct, located at 55 North Water Street, if the parents cannot be located.
• City ordinance prohibits drinking from glass bottles and/or carrying glass bottles at Mardi Gras. If you are observed in public drinking from or carrying a glass bottle, you will be asked to throw it away.
• Pay attention to where you park. Do not park in areas marked with No Parking signs. Pay special attention to the gold signs that prohibit parking 2 hours before, during, and after a parade. Also, make sure you do not park in an area where you block access to a driveway. You may also want to drop a pin on your cell phone map in case you forget where you parked.
• Make certain that you lock your vehicle doors and place any valuables in the trunk or out of sight.
