Earth day ❤️ I can’t get enough of this amazing planet- which is one of the reasons why we moved out to Idaho recently! I want my kids to appreciate and see the world like Josh and I did growing up. One of the first things we did when we got into town was head to the Elk Refuge near Jackson Hole. There is something magical about taking a quiet horse drawn sleigh ride around the herd of elk that come down to the valley every winter and I wanted Addie to experience it first hand! She enjoyed it- but enjoyed the ride down the cowboy coaster in town even more 😁 If you haven’t had a chance to experience it- I highly recommend adding it to your bucket list. Also, Jackson in the winter is a must! (And that cowboy coaster!!)

Moving out West has truly been bittersweet for us! Especially since spring is in full swing out in VA/DC/MD which is my favorite season (after fall)
For better or for worse- Spring will always remind me of the beginning of a long healing period after Sasha died. When we were picking out a plot in the cemetery- there was a beautiful blossoming cherry blossom tree nearby - and I couldn’t help but wish Sasha had been able to look past his dark day and think about the future- what could have been- the light and warmth after the dark cold winter...
My heart still aches because of the loss of my baby brother- I am so thankful for a loving Savior who overcame death- because of Him I know I will see Sasha again someday- and because of Him, our trials (which have been abundant this year) can be lessened if we just ask.
There is nothing good that comes from su***de- nothing at all. I am however thankful that Easter follows that terrible anniversary so closely - and if I can just remember what the Savior has done for us, for me, for Sasha- that sting of death is just a little less ❤️

Did you know the Washington Monument is three different colors because the society that started building it in 1848 went bankrupt 6 years later and the monument sat unfinished for 20 years until 1876 when congress decided to fund the completion. The original rock quarry they used was gone so they tried another one- didn’t like it- and finally settled on a more similar color from a quarry near Baltimore.
When it was finished in 1884, the 555 foot monument was the tallest building in the world.

I found my dad and Addie outside here often- painting and sketching. I love the bond that they have and the love they both share for art. Both of my parents are creative and talented in the arts and I’ll be forever grateful for their encouragement in pursuing music in high school and photography as an adult ❤️

You guys, NPS announced that they’ll be restricting access to the tidal basin for a second year 😭😭😭. I was going to try and make it out there because the cherry blossoms/springtime and fall are what I lived for out East! But- with the Covid restrictions I guess I’ll just have wait until next year (thanks Covid bleh)
So if you know of any pretty blossoms out here let me know! I’ve heard the SLC capital has some gorgeous ones, and fruit orchards in Utah/Idaho are pretty in the springtime too 🌸

Prompt 16: out my window 😍 we had the absolute best view at our Airbnb- when I say it was therapeutic being there- that view was a huge part of that!! Watching the waves every day was so relaxing! My parents bought a kite from this cute kite shop in Newport and Addie was obsessed!! This was a 30 foot dragon kite and it was so cool to watch fly with that huge tail!!

Food photo tips! It is so important to understand color temperature when photographing food (and products) because you need the colors to be accurate and as appealing as possible.
Basically: outdoor light is typically cooler (or more blue) than indoor light: see the next photo to see the temperature scale. If you mix the two kinds of light- you will sometimes notice weird blue or orange colors in your photos as you adjust the colors. To solve that problem, only use one kind of light.
For photographers starting out, I recommend using indirect or diffused window light as your light source and using something white to bounce the light back onto your subject (white paper, white sheet, anything white)
Don’t forget to turn off indoor lights.
Check out my highlights “lesson 6-9” for more information!

Also- thank you for teaching me how to decorate a cake! She helped me make this cake for Addie’s birthday last month ❤️
