I know from experience shopping with my own mom that finding a beautiful, well-made Mother of the Bride or Mother of the Groom gown can be surprisingly difficult. Even as a dressmaker, I have found that sourcing quality fabrics appropriate for these gowns becomes more challenging every season.

So, Anagrassia decided to invest in having a beautiful new cloqué custom ordered from Italy specifically for our custom gowns.

The fabric is a richly textured polyester, silk, and nylon cloqué in an earthy brown with olive and moss green undertones. It is one of those interesting colors that changes depending on what surrounds it. Next to greens, it appears more brown, while next to browns, its green tones become more noticeable.

It is also a very flattering and versatile color that works beautifully with a variety of skin tones and wedding color palettes.

This new Italian cloqué will be available for custom Mother of the Bride, Mother of the Groom, bridesmaid, and special occasion gowns. Each dress is individually made to the client's measurements and fully lined in silk.

Another Bridal Before and After is on the blog!

I’m starting a new series on the Anagrassia blog: Bridal Before & After.

Over the years, I’ve worked on wedding gowns that need everything from relatively straightforward alterations to major reconstruction. I thought it would be interesting to start sharing more of that process—the fitting problems I see, what is happening inside the gown, and how I approach correcting the fit and construction.

For the first post, I’m sharing AnneMarie’s wedding gown.
AnneMarie came to me with a custom-made gown that didn’t quite have the fit or look she had originally envisioned. What began as alterations ultimately turned into rebuilding the bodice, constructing a new dropped-waist inner corset, reworking the lace by hand, adjusting the sleeves, correcting the proportions and length, and adding the finishing details.

We had approximately five fittings along the way, including a mock-up fitting before I ever cut into the final materials.
This is exactly the kind of work I love, figuring out what isn’t working in a gown and using proper construction and fitting techniques to bring it closer to what the bride originally envisioned.

Thank you to all the girls who joined Anagrassia Atelier Club this July! I had so much fun preparing the classes (with Anya) and teaching each of you. It was a joy to watch your creativity and sewing skills grow throughout the month.

One of the projects the students chose to make was this beginner-friendly pair of shorts featuring a simple pocket technique. I adapted both the children's and adult BurdaStyle patterns to make them easier for beginner sewists.

Teaching is one of my favorite parts of what I do. Unfortunately, my schedule is a bit too full to offer Atelier Club in August, so there will be no classes this month.

Another reason to learn how to sew and mend clothing...

The new clothing laws may sound like a good idea, BUT pay close attention to where the fashion industry is heading.
As regulations reshape fashion, expect clothing, especially garments made from natural fibers, to become more expensive. We may also see many more brands shift toward rental, resale, and subscription models instead of traditional ownership.

Atelier Club is Back!

After taking a break while Anya was little and moving into my new atelier, I am so excited to announce that Atelier Club is officially returning!

Atelier Club is a monthly sewing program for girls ages 10–14 who want to learn sewing, garment construction, and creative design in a professional couture atelier. Classes are intentionally kept small, with no more than four students, so each girl receives plenty of individualized instruction.

🧵 July Membership Includes:

• Three 90-minute classes
• Fridays: July 10, 17, & 24
• 12:00–1:30 PM

Because I scheduled the July classes later than I had hoped, I am waiving the $75 new student registration fee for any student who registers this week and begins classes on Friday.

Not sure you're ready to commit to the full month? Since this month's schedule came together at the last minute, I'm also happy to allow new students to attend a single class for $50. Students are welcome to bring their own sewing project or choose one of the sewing kits available at the atelier.
