Recently, Jimmy Jam Productions planned and produced a remarkable Wizard of Oz themed event for the Broward Education Foundation annual fundraiser at Pier 66 in Fort Lauderdale.
Upon registration, attendees entered the Kansas tornado scene featuring a black and white backdrop, authentic tumbleweed, hay bales, split-rail fencing and the ominous sounds of a brewing storm.
While entering the cocktail reception, everyone was greeted by actors posing as Glinda the Good Witch encapsulated by a giant bubble with Dorothy and Toto by her side. The Wicked Witch of the East was knocked silly bearing the weight of a house.
The silent auction was filled with many fantastic items. To help encourage higher bidding the Wicked Witch, assisted by her Flying Monkeys, poured concoctions of Naughty Tea through a 9-foot tall ice luge.
When it was time to enter the Crystal Ballroom, the Munchkins aka Walker Elementary School students under the direction of Safiyyah Joseph whisked the guests down the yellow brick road into the Emerald City. The room was painted green with festive LED lighting as the live band, sharing the stage with Dorothy, Toto, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion welcomed everyone with upbeat music.
Event-goers were thoroughly entertained for the entire night from the powerful voice of Oz to the live rendition of “Over the Rainbow” performed by JP Taravella junior Nicole Sugarman. Classic tunes were played by the disc jockey followed by the program presented by Dustin Jacobs with main sponsor Brightstar Credit Union. Broward Education Foundation director Shea Ciriago gave a brief synopsis of what the foundation is about and then presented Heather Brinkworth with Ultimate Software “The Heart of Broward” award. Principal James Griffin hosted the live auction featuring remarkable vacation destinations. Then, it was time to dance as the high-energy Jam Band packed the dance floor for the rest of the night. Several guests added to the theme by dressing as iconic characters from the movie.
Reluctantly, it was time to click heels three times and head on out... Because there’s no place like home.
