Some of our favorite moments from an event happen long after the last guest leaves. Keeping circular design front of mind in all we do!

For Art of the After Party, we wanted to create something that would continue telling a story long after dinner was over. We partnered with Annie Pennings Edmond from Chowgirls Catering on the concept!

It began with surplus fabric generously donated by local, woman-owned company, down for good . Rather than letting those textiles go to waste, they were transformed into napkins for the event.

We then tapped artist, Lara Cornell , to hand-dye each one using natural pigments created from rescued food waste, making every napkin completely one-of-a-kind.

 + During dinner, guests used them as napkins.
 + After the event, they could become a bandana, a kitchen cloth, or another everyday essential.
+And when they’ve reached the end of a long life? They’re fully compostable.

✨ To us, that’s the magic of circular design. Every material has a journey, a purpose, and the potential for another beginning.

What if every detail of an event was designed with its next life in mind?

If you’re in MN you are feeling the pressure from this week’s extreme heat and hazardous air quality from Canadian fires 🔥.

Now we aren’t here to bring the doom, but these are signs that climate change is happening and it is impacting us as event vendors whether we like it or not. Luckily there are some actions we can take to reduce our impact and carbon footprint at our events!

➕Compost all your food from the menu. Ask your caterer or venue if they can add composting or bring in a pick up service.

➕Source locally grown menu items and florals!

➕Skip the floral foam.

➕Opt for reusable dishes and cups.

Let’s make these choices the default in how we design our events!

Take-home bags are something we see at all kinds of celebrations, but are often filled with items that feel fun in the moment but end up in the trash after guests arrive home.

Let’s design a take home bag with circularity in mind. ⚪️
pennings.edmond from imagined these gorgeous take home elements for the Art of the After Party showing how they can be done with the planet in mind. Annie worked with regenerative artist, Lara Cornell, to hand-dip 100% cotton totes with dyes made from food waste. The bags were then filled with gifts like beeswax candles from .burn.mn and French macarons made by talented Chowgirls pastry chefs. 

The treats were held inside handmade boxes that were crafted out of paper, made from office paper shredder scraps, food waste, and water, and then dried one by one!!

A local company, .co, donated deadstock fabric, which was then hand dyed and used as the napkins on the table for at Art of the After Party. Guests could take home their napkins to either use in their current form or as a bandana. And when the napkins reach the end of their lifecycle, they can be composted because they, like the tote bags, are made from 100% cotton.

Applauding this truly circular design and one of a kind handmade takeaway!

Sustainable design is rooted in joy, collaboration, beauty, generosity, reciprocity, teamwork, and creativity.

The team that brought Cultivate 2026 together embodies the core values of sustainability, and we are so grateful to all of them for their support.

Our team took the lead on planning the programming and overall event design. With the support of we were able to build a collaborative team to elevate the design experience. We brought in and to create an artful space with color splashed throughout and designed a printed program using sustainable inks and recycled papers from .

Food styling and design was led by .pennings.edmond and . Chowgirls also nourished us with a build-your-own wellness bowl with seasonal ingredients and fresh herbs snipped from the garden to top it off. The juice bar was a refreshing, joyful non-alcoholic option that we couldn’t get enough of!

Abundant local florals by spilled over the stage and tables surrounding us with garden vibes that kept us inspired.

The snack board by zero-waste caterer went fast and the desserts by and were so delecatable you would never guess they were vegan and gluten-free.

Interactive elements included an NA Wine and Vegan Cheese Tasting with , a food waste painting bar with artist and gorgeous waste displays showing that trash can be artful with the right vision.

We took a big risk this year by changing Cultivate into an industry-only gathering.

What we got was an experience designed for deeper connection, learning, and inspiration. Thanks to and .pennings.edmond for their commitment to the vision and bringing it to life.

We were honored to have Marley Finnegan of share her heartfelt opening words setting the tone for the day reminding us that we are more than our jobs and have the power to build a new world together.

Our educational sessions, peer-led discussions, interactive art installations, and curated tastings showcased what sustainable events can truly become.

The Art of the After Party dinner challenged the traditions of the event lifecycle. While we often define a sustainable meal as farm-to-table, this dinner focused on the ingredients—featuring remnants from one course and incorporating them creatively into the next one.

What if we took beet peels and citrus rinds from the appetizers and incorporated them into the salads? Could the kohlrabi peels and mushroom stems become a part of the next course?

Built from food waste, shaped by a lot of creative collaboration, and proof that sustainability can still feel luxurious, this dinner took what we traditionally see as waste and made it a part of the design.

When we take a circular-design lens, the end of an event becomes a new beginning, and demonstrates how intentional choices can transform what’s left behind into something purposeful, beautiful, and regenerative. What happens after the party is just as important as what happens at the party.
