As I have reached the milestone of 15 years in business (and turning 40 this year), Iād like to share a very personal story of how my business came to be š¤ø
I donāt tell many people this (except maybe the time I was on the front of the local newspaper š), but I struggled in grade school with depression to the point I missed so much school and acted out so poorly that when I was expelled, my principal said to me āyou will never amount to anythingā. For a long time this phrase was the burning chip on my disgruntled teenage shoulder that drove me to prove him (and myself) wrong ā to be successful and talented at something bigger than just myself. After this, I became a nose-to-the-grindstone, driven young woman with a point to prove, later going to James Madison to study art/interior architecture.
From graduating and starting a business during a recession, the halt of event business during COVID, and being a single parent ā that chip on my shoulder has served me well to not only find a way through during very trying times, but to keep hope alive and stay focused on my goals.
My mom always said to me as a kid: āyou just donāt ever give up do you?ā Sheās a funny Brit, and although she meant this sarcastically to the bull nosed little girl, it was foreshadowing of the thread that ran through my young life. A word that sums up the events of my life so far is āperseveranceā.
I am SO proud of that sad, hurt little teenage girl that felt the world stacked against her, but found a way to push through just one day at a time to where I am now.
If youāre entering 2025 wondering how or why about anything happening in your lifeā just think what you would say to younger you. You just have to believe in yourself ā one day at a time š
I thank all the people along the way that pushed me forward or inspired me, thanks to every couple, every referral source, every wedding planner, and every human that has trusted my little business at some point in the last 15 years.
