Reading, Learning, and Laughing at Penfield Children's Center
Community Outreach spent time at Penfield Children's Center on a sunny Thursday morning. There were children having fun in the sun and smiles all around. The Woman's Club of Wisconsin volunteers spent time with children, all under five years of age. It was an exciting time not only for the children but for members as well. Reading, learning, and laughing with the children was a great way to start the day.

It was so wonderful to see a group of children who loved books and were excited to be read to. Please consider joining the Community Outreach group at our next visit in the fall.

Discover the importance of examining how you make decisions—financial and otherwise. Learn why understanding your decision-making process is more critical than ever, especially for women seeking to manage and grow their wealth.

New WCW member Anne Tidmore and Johnson Financial Group are hosting a very special event at the Women’s Club of Wisconsin and would like to invite all Club members and guests to attend. We’ll eat, drink and play some cards (no experience necessary) while we learn about decision-making. Based on the principles of Thinking in Bets by Annie Duke, we'll delve into how poker serves as a powerful exercise in making decisions with incomplete information. Understand how this mindset can enhance your strategic thinking in both personal and financial contexts. As Annie Duke emphasizes, poker is not just a game—it's a model for real-life decision-making. By embracing uncertainty and thinking probabilistically, you can make smarter choices and build greater confidence in your financial decisions.

In the midst of World War II, as Germany battled across Europe, The Holocaust was taking place. Jewish prisoners and others targeted by the N***s played violins in the ghettos and concentration camps. Many musicians were forced to play; others played them as a form of resistance.

During the Holocaust, as the Jewish people were dehumanized, discriminated against, and mass murdered by the N***s and their collaborators, musical instruments too bore witness to this atrocity. But today, their music bears witness to this history: rising again, stronger and more vibrant - a testament to survival, hope, and the resilience of the human spirit.

This is the transformative journey of Violins of Hope-Wisconsin.

The Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra is bringing Violins of Hope, a collection of instruments owned and played during the Holocaust, to the Wisconsin community for a five-month residency of educational and cultural programs, exhibits, and performances from September 2025 to January 2026. We are pleased to welcome Linda Edelstein, CEO, Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, who will help us to learn more about this residency and how we can participate.

Serving as the Chief Executive Officer of Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, Linda Edelstein takes the leadership role in all facets of the organization, including strategic planning, board recruitment & engagement, donor cultivation, stewardship, & fundraising, financial, and managerial controls, and serves as vice chair of the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center.

Are the lakes warm enough for swimming yet? It doesn’t matter to Melodee Liegl because she is truly “Just a Girl who Loves to Swim." Melodee, who was born with congenital hip dysplasia, used swimming from an early age to overcome her disability and exercise without causing pain for her joints. Along the way, she became a prominent figure in the sport of marathon swimming, and has completed swims all over the country and the world.

In her own words: “I have always been a morning swimmer, crazy early. I jump in the pool at 4:00 AM. Nothing can replace the endorphins after swimming. But, I cannot wait to dip my toes in the many lakes in Wisconsin. I am so lucky to live in Lake Country. Swimming on the lake in early morning, seeing the moon and stars and then a colorful sunrise is a treat."

Melodee Liegl can write on water, which requires some explanation, a GPS tracking device, a few precautions for open-water swimming in the darkness of early morning, and the stamina of a marathon swimmer. Recently featured on CBS58, Melodee traces out patterns and shapes during her swim sessions in Beaver Lake. She doesn’t see the final result until she downloads her watch, but her artwork hangs in the David Barnett Gallery in Milwaukee. Artwork from the David Barnett Gallery will be on display. David will give a brief talk about his gallery, where a few of Melodee's creative works of art have been displayed. Melodee set challenges for herself that have crossed over into something more substantial.

Join us for this inspirational talk as Melodee shares the development of her swimming career and the multiple directions it has taken her in and out of the water. She says, "Swimming made me a strong woman and I truly believe I would not be where I am now if it was not for this sport. I have found something I love and challenge myself with amazing adventures. The water is my happy place.”

Rita was born in Abilene, Kansas and attended Kansas State University, Purdue University and Indiana University Medical Center. She has worked for many years in area hospitals as a dietician and as a nutrition consultant to area wellness programs. She comes from a large family who all worked in Kansas industries involving Native American farming practices. Many worked at local universities, extension departments, and were significant caregivers to those around them.

These cultural practices, as well as a traditional Cherokee menu, will be shared at this luncheon program. Many of the stories, prayers, myths and herbal practices demonstrated the oneness of all humanity and echoes the patterns of Native American culture from Alaska to Brazil. Customs will be discussed, herbal preparations shared and one such custom -- Smudging: The Blessing of a Neighbor's Home -- will actually be demonstrated.

Who doesn't love a literary classic that comes to life? We've all read the book Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll and now our Club will be transformed into a Mad Hatter Tea Party! In the book, Alice falls down a rabbit hole and enters a garden, where she encounters The Mad Hatter, and other captivating characters. The Hatter and March Hare are stuck at tea time forever, but your delightful Tea Party takes place only once, at the "Wonderland" that's the WCW!

Carroll's tea party involves switching places at the table periodically, making short, personal remarks, asking unanswerable riddles and reciting nonsensical poetry, all of which eventually drive Alice away. We promise you that our Mad Hatter Tea Party will be much more relaxing, as well as delicious
