“You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.” Psalms 56:8
A friend of mine sent this verse to me the other day after I took these photos at one of Charlie’s vigils and what she said afterwards made me think for a bit.
She said it was like the Holy Spirit was working through me to bottle the tears of those grieving and how God will use these moments to move in the hearts of many, that I am helping to record on God’s behalf.
And that hit me.
I never got the chance to meet Charlie, but I’ve always wanted to. He was admirable, kind, and courageous—a true inspiration. And it is clearer now more than ever that his life has and will continue to inspire many the way he has inspired me.
We each grieve and honor him differently. Some will carry his mission by speaking boldly, others by serving quietly and while I feel my convictions have grown stronger in different ways the last week, this is my way of honoring him now.
My way of saying his voice and his courage still echo here. That his legacy still lives, and it will carry on through each of us in the unique callings God has placed on our lives.
Though sorrow leaves its mark, so does legacy. And Charlie’s will not be forgotten.
