🪵Paper Idol is the genre-bending pop project of LA-based artist and auteur Matan KG. The music weaves dance music and alternative into “something unique and utterly disarming” (Beats per Minute), with storytelling that blurs the line between reality and fantasy, optimism and delusion.

🪵Moonglow is a pop-soul band fueled by the cosmic love-vibrations emanated from moonlit drives down ethereal boulevards. The band features the dynamic vocals and keyboard playing of leader Joe, driving funky riffs from guitarist Isaac, a J Dilla-esque backbeat provided by rhythm section Brent and Sterling on bass and drums, and the unmatched sultry saxophone playing provided by Tyler. Their live shows aim to get you groovin’ and tug on your nostalgic heart strings.

🪵As a member of GGOOLLDD, Nicholas Schubert has helped craft some of the catchiest and most upbeat synth-pop earworms Milwaukee has heard in quite some time. Even though the keyboardist has a knack for building fun, infectious, and poppy songs with his longtime friends and band mates in that accomplished project, Schubert—who says he grew up listening to bands like HIM and New Order—also has a darker artistic side that was fighting to get out. Now that goth rock identity has a landing point in a side project called BLOOD, which will release its debut album Friday, October 30.

After a couple of years away, Milwaukee Record's long-running Roast Of Milwaukee event is back! Like previous years, the event—which is done in association with the Milwaukee Comedy Festival—will feature a stacked cast of local comedians gently (or, in some cases, viciously) making fun of our fair city. This year's Roast Of Milwaukee will take place at The Cooperage on Wednesday, October 5.

Joining the homegrown humorists is host Kristin Brey of "As Goes Wisconsin," as well as a handful of surprise guests. And the laughs won’t just be at the expense of Milwaukee. A portion of the show’s proceeds will be donated to Milwaukee Women’s Center. Event sponsor Lakefront Brewery will have beers on special all night long. Tickets—which are limited to just 160 available seats—are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. The fun starts at 7:30 p.m (doors at 6:30). We'll see you there!

Named after a Paul Westerberg song about the power of ordinary people accomplishing extraordinary things, “We May Well Be The Ones” is a benefit concert in support of LuAnn Bird’s campaign for Wisconsin’s 84th Assembly District. This unique event is being produced by Christopher Porterfield of Field Report, and David Ravel, former Artist Director of Alverno Presents. The concert will bring together artists from across Milwaukee’s diverse music scene to entertain, inspire, and raise awareness about a campaign with state-wide significance at The Cooperage on Thursday, October 20 at 8:00 p.m.
MORE INFO + TICKETS: actblue.com/donate/wemaywellbetheones
“This seat will likely determine the future of the state. Not enough people are aware of that,” said Christopher Porterfield in a letter to supporters. “We hope to introduce LuAnn Bird to a larger audience and provide a space where all of us can join together around the joy of music to achieve a positive outcome.”
Porterfield lives in the newly re-configured 84th assembly district that now contains parts of Greenfield, Hales Corners, Greendale, and Milwaukee. Historically owned by Republicans, 2020 partisan redistricting has made the district competitive for the first time in a generation. If the GOP-controlled legislature wins this seat, they may achieve a supermajority, removing Governor Evers’ power to veto.
David Ravel will be coming out of retirement to produce the concert, which will follow the format of his acclaimed Alverno Presents “Uncovered” concert series. The “We May Well Be The Ones” benefit concert will see unique collaborations from Milwaukee music luminaires with a focus on songs about the power of collective action. Porterfield and his band, Field Report, will be joined by B-Free & Quinten Farr, Tontine Ensemble, Caley Conway, Marielle Allschwang, Sarah Vos, Treccy MT, Ellie Jackson, and Cree Myles. In addition to original material, they will be re-interpreting the music of Paul Westerberg, Laura Nyro, Gil Scott-Heron, and others.
Tickets are $25, and all proceeds will be donated to the LuAnn Bird Campaign.

Boom Forest & Foreign Fields ✨Thursday August 18
✨Doors 7PM

✨Boom Forest took a vacation from his mix of dance and folk and channeled the spirit of Zodiac Cashmere - a lounge singer from a jazz club on the moon in 2177 called the Black Swan. He can say anything he wants / he wears silk / he is a nasty boy.

✨Foreign Fields has returned home. Almost a full ten years after the release of their critically acclaimed debut album, “Anywhere But Where I Am”, Eric and Brian have reversed their once impulsive move to Nashville, TN and returned to the quiet stillness of the snows of winter in Wisconsin. After a series of solo efforts (Holl with his solo recording project, Boy Bjorn and Hillman the soundtrack for A44’s debut game, Ashen) they knew it was time to return to reflect on how far they had come and all they had learned along the way. Mirroring their first efforts as a band, recording in a heatless old office building in the middle of winter, the duo traveled out into the Wisconsin wilderness to write and record at a small remote cabin blanketed with a layer of snow. This space brought them and their music to its purest and most direct form. The lyrics laid bare and open. The instrumentation and arrangements simple. This album is Foreign Fields finding themselves most at peace, with their relationship, with their lives, with themselves.

✨GGOOLLDD never left, but now they're back with a blistering new track "Superstar," and the unbelievable live show you've come to know and love.

✨GGOOLLDD is an American electropop band from Milwaukee, Wisconsin with music similar to Chvrches, Ladytron, Haerts, and M83. The band is known for its catchy lyrics, showmanship, and lead singer Margaret Butler's unique sense of style and stage presence. GGOOLLDD's lyrics have been described as "youthful and charismatic". Butler describes her lyrics making the point that "we’re all okay, we all love, we all hurt, and sometimes people suck and want to bring us down. But the important thing is that I love you, and a lot of great people love you, and you are gunna make it through whatever comes your way." Margaret further states, "I’m giving you the stuff that makes me happy in hopes that it will make you happy. Definitely, we dabbled in a more commercial sound for a hot second because, you know, we were a new band trying new things but we quickly learned that is not us."

✨A Giant Dog - The quintet Spoon's Britt Daniel calls “the greatest American rock and roll / punk band since I don't know when."
A Giant Dog is raucous ear candy culled from the hook-driven melodies of Slade, the glammy swagger of Marc Bolan, the morbid fantasy of Killer-era Alice Cooper, and the unpredictable wit of Sparks. These songs are by, for, and about the losers, freaks, and outcasts. The lonely. The terminally h***y. Boozehounds and party animals.

✨Milwaukee's own Tigera opens this show. Coming in hot off of their Summer Soulstice appearance, this Milwaukee based Pop/Rock quintet is making their Big Show Cooperage debut. Let's party.

SATURDAY NIGHT!! A celebrated singer and songwriter, Alejandro Escovedo has as eclectic a background and body of work as any rock artist of his generation. As comfortable performing with a string ensemble as he is with an amped-up power trio, and as likely to bare his soul in his lyrics as he is to display some serious rock & roll swagger, Escovedo had already played an important role in punk (with the Nuns), roots rock (the True Believers), and alt-country (Rank & File) before he launched a solo career that's seen him work with everyone from John Cale to Bruce Springsteen. Hailing from Austin, Escovedo was inducted into the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame in 2021; No Depression magazine named him Artist of the Decade in the '90s and Rolling Stone's David Fricke says, “Musically, Alejandro Escovedo is in his own genre.” www.alejandroescovedo.com
