🤩 We got an order for an 8×8 ft wall made from silver square foil balloons.
We had never made one like this before, but the technique seemed pretty straightforward. So we took on the project thinking, “How hard can it be?” 😅
Well… there were definitely a few surprises.
For an 8×8 ft wall, we needed 64 foil squares. Inflating one square takes about 30 seconds, which doesn’t sound bad at all. But here was the first problem: our balloon inflators started overheating while inflating these foil balloons.
At one point, we had 5 inflators running in the workshop, switching between them so we could keep working without overheating them too much. Of course, that slowed down the whole process because we had to give the machines time to cool down.
Then came problem number two.
A lot of the foil squares started losing air. We tried balloons from different suppliers, but unfortunately the quality still wasn’t great. I would say around 20% were defective.
So the process became: inflate the balloon, wait and watch to see if it starts deflating, throw away the bad ones, and use the “survivors” for the wall. 😅
By the next day, some of the balloons in the finished wall had already lost some air, so we had to replace a few of them.
And after that… all you can do is hope the rest of them decide to stay inflated. 🫠
Lesson learned: never underestimate something just because it looks easy and you’ve never done it before. 😂
But now we have the experience, we know all the tricky parts, and next time we’ll be able to make this wall much faster!😎
