A Tribute to Iva Fern’s Mother
Mom,
I can’t believe it’s a month today that you left us and flew Home to be with Jesus. In some ways it seems like yesterday that you were here with us and we cared for you as cancer took its toll. On the other hand it seems much too long since I’ve seen the twinkle in your eye and heard your voice. It’s difficult to grasp that I’ll never see you on earth again. Designing your flower bouquet was the hardest one I’ve ever done. I wished so much that you would have been here to admire it with me. But I know that you have all the flowers of heaven to enjoy now, and they are more beautiful than I can ever imagine.

I never knew grieving could be so hard. The past four weeks have been weeks of exhaustion, of tears, of asking ourselves if we did everything we could for you and of wondering what heaven is like. I wish you could tell me about it. Every day living takes effort, the simplest tasks require concentration, I drop items, dump things in the kitchen and wake up at odd hours during the night.

Mom, your absence breaks our hearts and leaves a big hole in our home no one can ever fill. You were a stabilizing influence in our lives. I’m so grateful for all the good memories we have and for the many things you taught us. As your only daughter, I treasure the memories of our daily walks to the mailbox, working outdoors and in the house together. Your words continue to ring in my mind. Thank you for showing us by your life how to be surrendered to God’s will even though His path for you wasn’t easy. I love you, Mom, and I am looking forward to meeting you again some glad day.

Iva Fern and Lanette had such fun finding a gorgeous patch of flowers on the west coast that we were graciously allowed to harvest from. Then visiting an amazing dahlia farm topped it all off. The only problem was, we wanted to cut all of them! 🤩
