As a local inclusion advocate and an unaffiliated event co-chair, I was so proud to have encouraged advocacy:
- LOCALLY, at the Milan Middle school, NJHS ran with an idea and created a month of student-driven learning about Neurodiversity. We also visited the Milan City Council to rock our socks celebrating World Down Syndrome Day and the importance of “Shouting Their Worth!”
In my collaboration with EMU ‘s “The Workshop” and local nonprofit, the “Work & Play,” the E3 Neurodiversity
Conference included self-advocates from Milan, Ypsilanti and beyond.
-REGIONALLLY, Washtenaw Co. Prosecutor Eli Savit, State Rep. Carrie Rheingans and Future State Senator-hopeful, Felicia Brabec, participated in spreading powerful and important information about advocacy and most effectively creating change.
-STATEWIDE Koula Black from the AG Office, Tiffany S. Gaiter of the Michigan Developmental Disability Council and leading advocate for Michigan Education Reform for individuals with Severe IDD also shared initiatives and perspectives from a wider scope.
Beyond our state, Jeff Rayner, Cofounder and CEO of MXTreality, traveled from Seattle to share insights on XR, tech4good and more… engaging attendees including EMU students, faculty and staff (current and past) from a variety of departments like the Colleges of Education, Health Sciences and the Schools of Music and Art & Design with multidiciplinary areas like Animation, Simulation and Gaming.
I am finding that advocacy fuels more advocacy!❤️
