Okaayy guyysss ... These are STUNNING. 🤩 I got these for my bestie for a special delivery, and man oh man did we get lucky! *Moment of appreciation.*
Now, let's do real talk about dahlias. They are luxury, especially for east coast. They are ultra luxury right now off season. Their typical growing season for field grown is fall blooming, though they can be acquired in other times if the year greenhouse grown or from other zones.
Most dahlias that are accessible to the east coast USA are grown in California, and Dahlias don't like to ship, so usually we plan on 40-50% loss rates. On top of crazy high costs per stem (seriously, one of my top 5 most expensive wedding flowers), a full scale wedding of Dahlias is going to push you into 5-6 figure territory very, very fast.
What's the solution?
1. Find a florist you trust who sees your vision and has a great wholesale team or teams to pull from. (These are Cali grown brought to me by ) 🌹
2. Trust the florist with your vision. Be honest about what you like. 🫶
3. Be open to using dupes and subs, like mums, cremones, or even faux. Yes, it's ok to ask for pictures! 📸 Oh, and SEND pictures too. Dahlias come in many different shapes, sizes, and colors, so the choices your florist makes should be based on the type of dahlia, not just the color.
4. Watch out for AI and Pinterest. They can do great things, but you don't know what's behind it. That gorgeous dahlia and ranunculus wedding on Pinterest might've been a staged shoot 3 miles down the road from the grower. 🤯
5. Can't deal without real? Consider doing that just for the couple, and doing subs and dupes for the rest of the party. 💕
