Jacob Collier plays the Moodical, an audiovisual instrument that was first prototyped on October 1, 1971, at the Midland Center.

Dow designed his own experimental instrument: the Moodical. Part synthesizer, organ, violin, and guitar, it was imagined as a "sound machine" that could translate human emotion into light and sound through movement. "The idea is that when you step into it, you can dance a form of music," he said.

Dow patented the Moodical and unveiled a prototype at Midland Center for the Arts in 1971. Though ahead of its time, today's technology enables us to reimagine his visionary concept for the very first time, tonight.

After 55 years, Jacob Collier gives the debut performance.
