California is home to 16% of the nation’s creative workforce. We should recognize the value and impact of arts and culture and the critical need for creativity. Instead, we are 35th in the nation for arts funding.

According to the California Arts Advocacy Survey, long-term public underinvestment in the arts is a top concern for both arts organizations and creative workers. Rising rents, employee costs, and operational expenses threaten to displace artists from their communities, and even the state. We are at risk of losing our position as the leading creative state.

Arts and culture are critical investments for economic development, downtown recovery, community wellness, neighborhood pride, and belonging.

Join us this April as we advocate for the restoration of $5 million to the CAC’s budget. Send a letter to your elected officials urging them to invest in creativity for the health and betterment of CA communities. Visit: https://bit.ly/restore5m

The link below makes this very easy to fill out and write a little letter that supplements a ready-made letter to restore CA funding for the Arts. MAC's work has been significantly funded through California Arts Council grants and we continue to need those to survive.

From all of our work in fire recovery to the sculpture walk to just keeping our doors open. The CAC has been a major funder of MAC through competitive grants. Thank goodness the CAC understands how important it is to make rural communities a focus area where the need is very great. But with cuts to that funding our future really does remain in jeopardy.

Please please take a moment to request from our Representatives restoration of funding to the Arts. Our work benefits individuals across Lake County and when individuals benefit so does the greater whole. From beautification, to education, to events in which to celebrate gather and connect the MAC is in service to the community. We need the CAC to be able to offer more grant opportunities so that we can continue to serve. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Creativity is a bridge that connects us, transcending borders, backgrounds, and experiences. It reflects our shared humanity, sparking understanding, healing, and innovation. By investing in culture and championing creative expression, we build stronger, more inclusive communities where every voice has the power to inspire change.

72% of Americans believe that arts and culture provides shared experiences with people of different races, ethnicities, ages, beliefs, and identities.

Art is a universal language that transcends borders, allowing us to share our stories, preserve cultural heritage, and foster connections beyond our own communities. Through visual art, music, dance, and performance, we bridge linguistic and cultural divides, building solidarity and a collective movement rooted in shared humanity.
Join us in building an arts movement that uplifts voices, fosters empathy, and unites communities. Send a letter to your elected officials urging them to invest in creativity for the health and betterment of CA communities. Visit: https://bit.ly/restore5m

Awe! These young artists shared a beautiful vision of respecting the plurality of the natural world, including humans. The Kaleidoscope Effect speaks to unity in diversity – coming together to form something greater than the sum of its parts.

Youth artists selected this name to refer to the shifting colors of a kaleidoscope (the device), or a flutter of butterflies, also called a “kaleidoscope of butterflies” which has the potential to spark change—also known as the “ripple effect”. This collaboratively designed and painted mural reminds us that our differences make our community stronger and more vibrant.

You can go see this vibrant mural and take a pic in front of it too! Maybe stand in the middle and become the butterfly!
At La Mixte-ca Oaxaca Restaurant in Middletown, CA.

This project is made possible with support from Redwood Community Services, Elevate Youth California, and is administered by The Center at Sierra Health Foundation under contract with the California Department of Health Care Services through Proposition 64.
