At last night's County Council meeting, Bill 55-25 was introduced. It includes a proposed map for nine Council districts as well as the population and demographic summary for the proposed map. You can view the interactive map and the current councilmanic districts at https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/d02f1f6ff47a4e3c9366a927fb901a73/page/Home .

When looking at the interactive map, take note of the three icons in the upper right (white on dark-blue background). The icon on the left is the "SWIPE" widget. It allows you to click on and move a vertical line that shows the council districts as they are today v. the proposed districts. The right icon allows you to search an address in the county to see which district it is in.

Members of the public may provide input on the bill and the map at two hearings; County Council's Work Sessions on August 28 and September 9, both at 4:00 PM. Written testimony may submitted anytime via e-mail at [email protected] .

Please be aware

Days Cove Rubble Landfill has submitted an application for a revised discharge permit from MD Department of the Environment (MDE). The facility is an unlined landfill that discharges into a waterway with an aquatic species listed in the Endangered Species Act according to the EPA's ECHO Database. The facility’s original permit was issued in 2013, but they didn’t use it until 2023. Prior to 2023, they sent their water to an offsite location for treatment. Proposed revisions to their permit include:
-Scrapping plans they had promised would treat their discharge to drinking water standards onsite
-Weaker limits for ammonia
-Doubling total discharge
A public hearing is tentatively set for September 16, 2025 at the Perry Hall Library. For more information about how to prepare for that hearing or express your concerns, head to our website at https://gunpowderriverkeeper.org or at the link in our bio. In the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing facts about the permit to clarify what the facility is requesting. Stay tuned!

MORE EVENTS! 🎼🎶🎷🎺🎤🪈🥁
from the Middle River Concert Band MEMBERS (MRCB)

Mark (the singer) from Middle River Concert Band sent me this information. Several of the MRCB folks play in different groups. One of those is Ain’t Misbehavin’. If anyone might like to hear a traditional ‘Big Band’ (Think Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Laurence Welk, and the like), perhaps you would like to add these upcoming events to your calendar!

The first has a $10 cover to enter the vineyard for 3 hours of live ‘Big Band’ entertainment, and the second is a free 2-hour seaside ‘Big Band’ concert open to the public.
