🇨🇦🌉 More than a century later, the Québec Bridge still holds a world engineering record.

On September 20, 1917, installation of the bridge’s replacement central span was successfully completed.

Its main span stretches roughly 549 metres between the major piers.

That remains the longest cantilever bridge span ever built.

The entire bridge contains about 60,000 tonnes of steel.

Its construction came at enormous human cost, including catastrophic collapses in 1907 and 1916.

But the finished structure became one of the most important engineering landmarks in Canadian history.

More than 100 years later, it still crosses the St. Lawrence — and still holds the record.
