Happy Friday to all our FB friends and supporters! Viernes Culturales has been quite busy the last few months filming the much-anticipated documentary film, Ventanitas: The Soul of Little Havana thanks to. generous grant from the State Division of Historical Resources. The film chronicles the History of Little Havana and the many immigrant stories of the neighbohood dating back to the 1950's. It has been an amazing experience for us to capture these stories and there have been many tears shed in the process. As we reflect on the History of our organization and our neighborhood we would also like to mention the incredible success we are having recently preserving the neighborhood and working with local landlords and business owners to unite in these efforts. Recently the Andes Apartments ( aka as the Barcelona) in Little Havana were purchased and are one of the first large multi-family buildings being Historically designated and preserved. We are excited for the future of our neighborhood and will continue our efforts in any way we can to preserve its rich History, and all of its authentic Art, Music and Culture.
That said, today we will host (as we have done for the last 20 years) our FREE WALKING TOUR with Dr Paul George. We ask that anyone who wants to join us please pre-register on our Eventbrite page (link below) and please consider making a donation to our cause.
Thank you and see you all soon! Meet up as always at Tower Theatre at 7pm.

The Havana Sugar Kings were a Cuban-based minor league baseball team that played from 1946 to 1960. From 1954 until 1960, they belonged in the Class AAA International League, affiliated with Major League Baseball's Cincinnati Reds. Their home stadium was El Gran Estadio del Cerro in Havana.

I’m pretty sure the entire neighborhood is as excited for this news as we are.
Please join us welcoming back one of our own as we share their beautiful story of family and perseverance. This is their 12th location but their first back in their old neighborhood of so we feel like it’s a return to their roots. in Miami
FAMILY STORY: In the 1980s, a young Olga and Juan Montano found their passion in the baking industry. Olga gained her passion for decorating cakes from her grandmother. Her career began as a cake decorator in a popular Florida Supermarket, where her work was quickly recognized. Juan developed his love for baking while making deliveries for a popular Miami French bakery. He then relocated to the Supermarket, where he was promoted to Bakery Manager. Here, Olga and Juan met and learned the discipline, hard work, and dedication they would later need. After a combined 10 years with the supermarket, Olga and Juan now with four boys, made the tough life- changing decision to pursue their dream. Something their parents could only wish for in a communist Cuba. On May 1st, 1993, their dream became a reality when Party Cake Bakery was born in a small 1,300 square foot bakery on Miller Drive in the growing west side of Miami. Today, Party Cake Bakery has grown into a premier bakery with multiple locations, providing hundreds of jobs in the community. The Montano family, like the business, has grown throughout the years to six kids. Their story has become an example that with patience, commitment, dedication, and hard
work the American Dream is achievable.

Today is a big day for Viernes Culturales as we just published the second edition of the Explore Little Havana Map thanks to the support of GMCVB , Bacardi , MiamiMarlins and Commissioner @EileenHiggins. And we are also very excited to announce our partnership with #wetrek and the launch of our very own #Littlehavana walking tour app now available on all app stores and FREE. No longer will visitors to little havana roam the streets lost. Now they will have access to all the great history and culture of the neighborhood. #savelittlehavana Thank you 🙏 to the team at #BIGBUSTOURS AND #TravelHostMagazine for the collaboration.
Dear Friends and Supporters, This Friday we will not celebrate Viernes Culturales as we continue to be denied access by the City of Miami to Domino Park. We continue to work with our partners and sponsors to try and find a solution so that we can once again bring back our 22-year event. That said it seems there is a lot of confusion in the market so let us clarify. The event being hosted by our City Commissioner NOW on the last Friday has NOTHING to do with our non-profit. Our event is solely funded by grants and sponsors not by the City and not by AmericaTeve. We assure you we are not going anywhere. We are still working on many projects including our Ventanitas Documentary capturing the History of Little Havana since our mission is to ultimately preserve the neighborhood and all its rich history including the Latin Arts and Culture for many generations to come. We still continue to manage the Little Havana Welcome Center every day which thanks to the GMCVB and AARP now includes a Little Havana Map and a downloadable GPS guided Audio Tour via the Wetrek App. We are very proud of everything we do every day to preserve Little Havana and share our wonderful heritage in the neighborhood. Please still consider joining us at our Historic Walking Tour this Friday at 7pm with Dr Paul George, and please continue to support our local artists and businesses by visiting the Little Havana area and our ambassador businesses including: Azucar Ice Cream Company Ball & Chain Bar & Lounge Bay of Pigs Museum Caraballo Locksmith Casa del Tabaco Corp Cuba Ocho Museum & Performing Arts Center Cuba Tobacco Cigar Co.
