I'm grateful, fortunate, and blessed in my DJ career. Among my accomplishments was mixing live on Major Market Radio Stations like Y100 and El Zol 95. TBT I found this in my office...an early fax cover sheet from 1994 to Al Chio Assistant P.D. and some playlist logs. (Computer based Djing wasn't around then. It was cds and vinyl records).
I was on the air every Friday from 1994 to 1999, guest DJ until 2001, and kept a log of every mix show I ever did, complete with Date, Time, Broadcast Show #, etc. The idea was to cover my ass if ever any questions arose, and to try to be as different as possible every week.
You'll notice a wide variety of tempos and genres. This was intentional since, in effect, I was programming a major radio station which requires a different approach to cater to a mass appeal, varied demographic, so the tempos and genres were mixed more frequently than a DJ would normally do in a club setting in order to be compliant with radio station parameters and a diverse listener base.
The program eventually was renamed Friday Flashbacks. It was just called a nice variety of music, then instead of the now overused, played out "Open Format" term. Al Chio was a great mentor as far as Radio Station Programming Theory and Ad Libbing.
These were great experiences that forever changed the way I approach djing.
