Meridian Musician’s Memorial

Meridian Musician’s Memorial Audio Engineer who wants to honor and remember those area musicians now performing in “The Great Gig In The Sky”

The next Meridian Musicians memorial will be held on October 11, 2026 at the historic Temple Theatre.

This is a celebration of the lives of area musicians who are now playing in “The Great Gig in the Sky.”

If you should know family or friends of the musicians on our list, please contact them.

We want a list of three songs that were performed by these individuals. Perhaps the favorite song that they performed, and/or their wife’s favorite song that the did. Three songs.

We will collect and collate all these songs. We will then arrange the program so that the participating musicians will perform the collection of songs and the screens on stage L & R will display the names of the musicians that performed those songs.

We also need more photographs. We will accept up to 12 photos for our memorial power point projections. Most pictures should be of the musicians only. If they were in a well-known local band, we can display that picture, but we need the names of the other band members that may be in it.

Hello friends,

We have had a number of requests to have another Musicians memorial.

The date will be Sunday, October 11, 2026.

We looked at having it on a Saturday to accommodate the many people that came in from out of town and other states to the first memorial.

There are events scheduled for every Saturday in October in Meridian. We also have to take into account that the number of musicians would have other gigs on a Saturday. Sunday is ideal after all.

At the last memorial, a number of you said you would like to help if we did another one. We are asking for volunteers. Send a note if you’d like to be involved in the production.
Once again we have to raise money. The last time all musicians and stage crew got paid. After expenses for printing, and radio ad spots, we raised $3500 for the Temple theater which is a 503C nonprofit.

We would like to raise even more capital this year by having more family businesses as sponsors.

We we would like to solicit donations only from local family owned businesses. Many of y’all patronize family businesses. If you can pave the way by telling the owners about the Meridian Musicians Memorial, and asking if they’d like to be a family business sponsor.

Here is the story to tell to them:

“A band is like a small business. They have expenses associated with every performance. A band is also like a family. They travel together. They eat together. They sleep or nap together.”

“If you are a band leader and and you discover that one of your band members is drinking excessively or consuming illegal substances, and you must fire him over it. That can be like a family going through a divorce. Bands go through the very same social dynamics as families.”

“In in addition to honoring those Musicians from Meridian and Lauderdale County Mississippi, who are now playing in
‘That Great Gig In The Sky,’ during this memorial, we want to recognize that family businesses are an important part of our local economy.”

I will be posting an updated list of all of the deceased Musicians. I retyped the list to put all the Musicians in alphabetical order. I’m fairly sure this will help everyone.

When I post the list, please contact me if you know of any other name that needs to be added.

Also, please copy and send this to any of the wife’s, or family members of those whom we are going to honor.

I am posting this on my page, but I will also copy it and send it to folks in my phone directory.

Please message me on this platform.
