The Seattle Jewish Film Festival is deeply saddened by the loss of the great Israeli actor, Alon Aboutboul z"l our 2017 SJFF Opening Night Film HARMONIA guest and lead actor who shmoozed and posed for photos endlessly with and charmed guests. He was so kind, generous, and talented. A still rising star has fallen. View SJFF 20217 Facebook photo album: https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=10155183240718559&set=a.10155181840058559

Miami Jewish Film Festival: is offering a retrospective of his films. See below.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of legendary Israeli actor Alon Aboutboul, whose extraordinary talent and presence left an indelible mark on Israeli and international cinema.

Over the years, the Miami Jewish Film Festival has had the distinct honor of premiering several of Alon's acclaimed films, including A PLACE IN HEAVEN, HARMONIA, and FORGIVENESS, which poignantly closed our Festival in 2020. His performances were not just masterful—they were transformative, bringing depth, humanity, and truth to every role he inhabited.

As we remember Alon Aboutboul, we encourage you to take a moment to watch one of his many remarkable films, to reflect on his artistry, and to honor a life lived with passion and purpose.

May his memory be for a blessing.

Please join Holocaust Center for Humanity this Sunday, July 13 at 2 pm for the opening of a new exhibition in downtown Seattle: "Through the Lens of Eskenasy: The Story of a Turkish, German, and Jewish Family."

Join us this Sunday at 2:00 pm for the Grand Opening celebration for our latest temporary exhibit, Through the Lens of Eskenasy: The Story of a Turkish, Jewish, German Family. 📸 This exhibition offers a glimpse into the story of a cosmopolitan family that defied clear national, religious or ethnic categorization. The Eskenasy family crossed state borders, switched religious categories, and changed citizenship several times. Their story links Istanbul to Vienna, Munich, Theresienstadt Ghetto, New York City, and Washington state. 🗺️

The event will feature a discussion between a descendant of the Eskenasy family and the exhibition curator and researcher Joana Bürger and will be moderated by Professor Devin Naar. It’s open to everybody, and free to members!
