In 1939, the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show and Agriculural Exposition, the forerunner of today's Show, was organized as a project of the Mercedes Chamber of Commerce. The first show was held in 1940 on the grounds of a local livestock sales yard with make shift pens and lean-to sheds. The Show continued to be held on this same property until 1949 when it moved to its present location at 1000 No

rth Texas in Mercedes. In 1947, the Show was incorporated and chartered as a non-profit educational organization with a Board of Directors representing all of the four southmost counties of Texas. By 1979, all exhibits which were one housed in some 12 tents were in permanent buildings located on slightly over 100 acres. Volunteers from all walks of life and a dedicated Board of Directors give endless hours of their time to make the Show a success. Without them it would be impossible to produce the Show as the cost would be excessive. The Show has continued to grow each year and now ranks as one of the top ten in the State. People from all over Texas eagerly anticipate the event and come to enjoy the many activities including a parade, rodeos, competitive livestock events and the many, many attractions which are scheduled daily.

We are excited to announce the 25th Annual Ag Awareness Day at the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show, formerly known as Kids, Kows & More! This year's event will be held on November 4–7, 2025 at the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Showgrounds.

We're excited to partner with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Services of Cameron and Hidalgo Counties 4-H Programs to bring you an even better agricultural education experience. This FREE event is designed for 4th-grade students and features interactive sessions on dairy cattle, swine, beef production, equine, cotton, water conservation, and citrus.

Lunch won't be provided, but there will be a designated lunch area. Light snacks and refreshments will be available between sessions.

Congratulations to our RGVLS Exhibitor Cora Ford, on winning the TAF&E Education Foundation Scholarship!
Cora Ford of Borderline 4-H and Weslaco FFA, has been an RGVLS exhibitor since 2016. She has exhibited swine, poultry, lamb, goat, and cattle projects. She has also participated in Public Speaking, Beef & Swine Skill-a-thons, Ag Product ID, and Consumer Decision Making. In 4-H and FFA, Cora has competed up to the state level in public speaking, CDM, and educational presentations. Cora serves as a Texas FFA Ford Leadership Scholar, Texas 4-H State Council Secretary, and Texas 4-H Livestock Ambassador. The highlights of Cora's RGVLS career have been her time as 2nd Runner Covergirl in 2024, Grand Champion Market Poultry in 2020, Grand Champion Market Hog in 2024, and Grand Champion Public Speaking in 2024 and 2025. Cora credits the RGVLS with constantly growing and shaping her to be her best, pushing through challenges, and serving wholeheartedly. She is exceptionally grateful to represent RGVLS and earn this prestigious scholarship. Cora will attend Texas A&M University, College Station, in the fall, majoring in Animal Science.
