Weeks after his death customers are still grieving for the loss of our friend and bluesman Daddy Mack Orr. Daddy Mack was a musical mainstay for us here at the Center for Southern Folklore for many years. We carry a wide array of his CDS here - often telling out-of-town visitors and Memphians alike that he was "the real deal," when it came to singing the blues. He was the real deal - in every way - as a musician but more so because of his kindly and hospitable nature. We'll miss him.

that the Pinch District was the first business section in the city. The area was also home to many religious and immigrant families upon arrival to this country. The picture below shows what a melting pot the Pinch was in the early 1900s. Shown is a Jewish tailor, an Italian firefighter and an Irish police officer who round out the neighborhood.

Recently the Center for Southern Folklore lost store vendor and long-time friend Frank Lilly. Frank was a very talented artist: we celebrated his numerous art pieces in this space often. My favorite: "Angels Still Pray Here," paid homage to his deep religious background. One we've never featured here is a large mural that greets visitors and displays a snapshot image from his days at the Mid-South Coliseum. It's called "Intermission at the Coliseum."
Rest well by friend.
