In 1871, three Kiowa leaders, Satanta, Satank, and Big Tree, were arrested at Fort Sill after Satanta admitted to leading a raid on a Texas wagon train.

What happened on the journey to trial became just as significant as the arrest itself.

Satank refused to accept imprisonment. He broke free, attacked a guard with a hidden knife, and was shot before reaching the courtroom. Satanta and Big Tree continued on, becoming the first Native American war leaders tried in a civilian court for frontier-era actions.

The arrests marked a turning point, the government's Peace Policy quickly gave way to more aggressive military campaigns across the Southern Plains.

More than 150 years later, visitors can still stand where those arrests took place.

The Quanah Parker Star House is a piece of Oklahoma history that is definitely worth saving.

There have guided tours of the star house only by donation and they’ll be having a birthday celebration later today for Jesse James with food vendors and a guided tour of the Frank James House
