a few months ago, I saw the mary oliver documentary. as a devout reader of her work, I was rapt. in it, the narrators discussed how oliver would require each poem to meet three requirements-
did it have genuine form?
was there sincere energy between the author and reader?
did it have a spiritual purpose?
these questions have stuck with me. and while I am not a poet, I think they can be asked by artists across all mediums.
for me, floristry is a form of sculpture. sometimes when things are busy, there is less time to really slow down and appreciate the process and work despite the intention being there. being in the studio yesterday, creating with my little family, I got to focus on being present and purposeful, asking myself - does it have genuine form? is it sincere? does it have genuine purpose?
