Why is volunteering important? We leave you with this question on the final day of our week-long celebration of service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

As Karen shares in this video, she sees volunteering as an opportunity to be part of the solution. Whatever causes you care about, we hope this week has inspired you to consider new ways to give back and make a difference. Thanks for joining us!

Why Teresa volunteers...

Snack mom. Assistance coach. Board member. Teresa started volunteering with the Falls Church Kiwanis Little League because of her kids. Today she volunteers 𝗳𝗼𝗿 her kids. She sees it as an opportunity to help them understand their role as citizens, to demonstrate the importance of giving back, and to spend time sharing a family activity they all love.

What motivates YOU to volunteer? Tell us in a comment.

None of us are sure how Mercedita Roxas-Murray does it. But somehow, in addition to running a company and raising a family, she finds ample time to give back to her community.

Mercedita volunteers for the Capital Region Minority Supplier Development Council's Minority Business Enterprise Input Committee and serves as an interim board member for the Montgomery County Small Business Association. She is a strong advocate for small, woman-owned, and minority-owned businesses, providing leadership and mentorship for fellow strivers. Fun fact: Mercedita also shares an inspirational note with the Montage team every morning.

What causes do you believe in and advocate for? Let us know and join us as we continue to celebrate service this week in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Montage celebrates the MLK Week of Service

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'" As we honor Dr. King's life and teachings this week, we want to share our teams' answers. Their responses and their acts of service represent what we strive for at Montage—work that leaves a positive impact on community. Please watch, reflect, and share what you do to help others throughout the year.

Special thanks to Johni Cruse Craig for lending her beautiful voice and the Montgomery County Volunteer Center for its continued partnership.

Dr. Johni Shares a Quote from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Dr. Johni Cruse Craig has developed a reputation as an informal spiritual leader at Montage. She also shares her wisdom and talents with the public as an educator, author, speaker, strategist, and content creator.

Generous in spirit and in action, Dr. Johni volunteers frequently with a variety of organizations. Particularly close to her heart is Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Delta Sigma Theta is committed to the constructive development of its 200,000+ members and to public service, with a primary focus on the Black community.

Dr. Johni joins us today to share one of her favorite quotes from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. She recites, “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.”

Join us in our week-long celebration of service in honor of Dr. King. Tell us: What organizations do you volunteer for and why?

What Volunteering Means to Me

Today begins Montage’s week-long celebration of service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Over the next 7 days, we’ll showcase some of our employees’ volunteer experiences and share the many reasons why we choose to give back to our communities. Dianne Beltran joins us today to kick things off.

Dianne volunteers regularly with In It Together NYC to support New York City’s most vulnerable citizens. She also gives her time and energy to Colombia Progresa, an organization that provides education, nutrition, and extracurricular activities to children in her native Colombia.

VIDEO CAPTION: Dianne says, “Gandhi said, ‘Be the change you want the world to see.’ And that is why volunteering is so important to me. Because it gives me the opportunity to make a difference in my community and in the lives of those that need a helping hand.”

Happy Veterans Day! Today we honor and remember our military servicemen and women past and present. Montage team member Angie shared this story about her father, a proud United States Marine:

There is one special person I’d like to honor and remember today in particular – my dad. He served this country faithfully in the Vietnam War and embodied all the core values of the Marines: honor, courage, and commitment.

My dad was not only a proud, hard-headed Marine, but the best father, protector, provider, and teacher anyone could ask for. He had a dry sense of humor like no one I’ve ever met and always made me laugh. He gave the best, most enveloping hugs like a big teddy bear and always had warm hands when mine were cold.

Although he survived the war, consequences from it resulted in him being taken from us too soon at age 64. I humbly thank and honor him and all who served and continue to serve our country.

I spy with my little eye some Montage Marketing work in the wild. Such a honor to suppport the National Park Service and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore during the park's 50th anniversary year.

BENZIE COUNTY - The National Park Service celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore on Oct. 21, the culmination of a year's worth of celebration starting in 2019. While the NPS was not able to celebrate like they planned, there was still an open house for the park...

Zoom in to read all the words that describe them. And a Happy Boss’s Day to all the fearless leaders out there!
