Early this morning, the temperature dipped just low enough to lightly dust the Field Patch dahlias with frost. This dahlia patch is situated on the east side of our house, in an open area, and is usually frosted first, which is why we start planting this side in the spring.
On the West side of our house, flanked by trees on both sides, sits the Stone Patch. Many of the dahlias planted here are just blooming for the first time this season. The plants are fresh and green, although a little battered from two days of heavy winds. It’s the last area to get planted, and it takes a much heavier frost to get to the dahlias over here.
It’s supposed to be a few degrees colder in the early hours of tomorrow morning, and I’m really hoping a deeper frost holds off. I’m not quite ready to call it quits on the Field Patch dahlias just yet🤞🏼
