We don’t get to choose most of the things that shape our lives.We don’t choose our parents.We don’t choose our children.We don’t choose the era we’re born into, the leaders we live under, or the circumstances we’re handed. These are things we learn to accept, honor, obey, and navigate — because they are assigned, not selected. But there is one relationship God places fully in our hands:...

The One Thing God Lets Us Choose: Our Soulmate

We don’t get to choose most of the things that shape our lives.
We don’t choose our parents.
We don’t choose our children.
We don’t choose the era we’re born into, the leaders we live under, or the circumstances we’re handed.

These are things we learn to accept, honor, obey, and navigate — because they are assigned, not selected.

But there is one relationship God places fully in our hands:
Our soulmate.
The person we choose — and who chooses us back.

I’ve been married twice, and I carry no regrets from either marriage. Not because everything was perfect, but because removing those chapters would erase so many choices that shaped who I am today. My children, my growth, my calling, my resilience — all of these were born from paths I walked willingly.

Regret would rewrite the story God already used for good.

And that’s why I believe this so deeply:

A soulmate is not destiny. A soulmate is a choice.

God doesn’t force that decision on us.
He doesn’t assign it the way He assigns family.
He doesn’t predetermine it the way He ordains purpose.

He hands us the freedom — and the responsibility — to choose someone whose heart aligns with ours, whose character honors us, and whose presence strengthens us.

And here’s the part we forget:

A soulmate is not just the person you choose.
A soulmate is the person who chooses you back.

Love is mutual selection.
Mutual sacrifice.
Mutual commitment.
Mutual choosing — day after day.

So choose wisely.
Choose intentionally.
Choose someone who chooses you with the same clarity, the same devotion, and the same willingness to grow.

Because out of all the things in life we don’t get to choose…
this one is holy because God lets us.

Sometimes we forget how much people around us need to hear it — really hear it: “I love you.”Not just in passing, not just when life gets heavy, but in the everyday moments that seem small but matter the most.

Love is a word, yes… but it’s also a gesture, a check‑in, a showing up, a listening ear, a soft place to land.

If someone crossed your mind tonight, tell them.If someone has carried you, thank them.If someone needs reassurance, give it freely.

Love spoken is powerful.Love lived is unforgettable.
