Tacoma Arts Live is proud to partner with Northwest Playwrights Alliance to spotlight emerging playwrights in a series of script readings.

Whether you love to read, go to the theater, or are fascinated with the moment when what’s on paper comes to life on stage, this experience is for you. Each reading concludes with a facilitated discussion, where audiences can share feedback.

Tickets are free, but donations are encouraged. Join us in championing new voices and fresh stories from our region.

🎭November 3 – Seven Ways to Get There, by Bryan Willis & Dwayne Clark
Based on a true story…Seven Ways to Get There lifts the veil on doctor-patient confidentiality. In this comedic, yet revealing, look at the troubles everyone can relate to, seven men are in group therapy trying to work through their issues. Conflict resolution may be the goal, but in order to get through difficult times, they’ll have to find the right path that works for them.

✨Special thank you to the Campbell-Loan Family for their support of this series✨

Big news, friends! 🎭

On Monday, November 3rd at 6:30 PM, Tacoma Arts Live will present a reading of my play “Seven Ways to Get There,” co-written with Bryan Willis.

Real experiences inspire this heartfelt (and often hilarious) story, seven men in group therapy trying to figure out life, love, and the messy in-between.

It’s free to attend, and I’d love to have you join us for an evening of laughter, reflection, and connection.

Oscar's Journey, the Fall and Rise of the Bird King
Ober Park
Sunday, August 17, 5pm
Vashon’s Troll Legend Lives Again – In Ober Park

Vashon Repertory Theatre and Vashon Park District join forces this summer to reprise The Original Story of the Vashon Troll’s Origins. Playwright Bryan Willis’ fanciful story about Vashon’s troll, and the origin of both his trollness and his place as protector of the birds beguiled audiences in its premiere last year. Perfect for outdoor staging, Oscar’s Journey, The Fall and Rise of the Bird King will rise again August 17, 5pm on the stage at Ober Park with some new twists and new woodland characters.

With loads of audience interaction, the show is kid friendly with plenty of humor for adults and a gentle message for all. The play features original music composed and performed by Musical Director Kat Eggleston.

Oscar’s Journey is part of Vashon Rep’s cultural exchange with Chinese theatre students from a Shanghai program called The Sunrise Art Group. Two Chinese interns will participate in the play. Actors Jerry Wang and Derek Du will perform in the play and intern Kingsley Du will act as Stage Manager. Sunrise Art Group founder, Michael Shi, will visit our Island to share in the experience with his students, as will their mothers.

Oscar’s Journey, the Fall and Rise of the Bird King will play just once, Sunday, August 17, 5pm on the Ober Park stage. Admission is free. Donations gratefully accepted.
