The woods come alive in the theatrical soundscape performance, part of the August 28 book launch at Browsers Bookshop of “Menagerie: A Cluster of Loss,” published by Countershade Press, a new micro press for q***r speculative fiction run by husbands Jonah and Austin Barnett. Following the performance, Jonah Barnett will host a Q & A with Cecelia Meade, the author of the story “The Woods,” one of five by local writers in “Menagerie.”

Call for submissions! Write a poem or song about YODELING. That's right, August 8th is International Yodeling Day and we're celebrating by asking friends and colleagues to write yodel-related poems or songs which we plan on publishing in a collection entitled, Yodeltry.

Yodeltry will be sold during Intermission of a future play. We'll split the profits. Okay, there won't be much money to split. But think of the fame! Okay, limited fame. Think of the fun! Please send your poems or songs to [email protected] Deadline Sept. 8th. Happy Writing....

The Detention Lottery is an immersive theater experience that takes the audience beyond the scary headlines and news clips, directly into the courtroom to see just how justice is being served in our name.

Playwright Margaret O'Donnell created The Detention Lottery to address her despair, as a practicing immigration attorney, that the public could not see detainees grapple with our broken justice system. The Detention Lottery debuted in 2018 and has been performed by dozens of organizations, raising awareness, educating, and raising thousands of dollars for immigrant justice projects.

Amy Youngblood has directed 9 performances, two radio drama versions, and two workshops since signing onto The Detention Lottery team in 2025.
