Hi everyone! My name is Courtney Beene and I am the Director for McAlester Event & Entertainment Team. I want to take a moment to introduce myself and tell you what MEET does.

I am married to Chris Beene and we have 2 sons. I used to own a boutique on Choctaw Ave and am now a stay at home mom. I am an active member of the McAlester Band & Guard Boosters Club and volunteer at my son’s schools when needed.

MEET was formed in 2023 to fulfill a need for family friendly events where everyone is welcome. Our past events have been Mental Health Day, Jaywalk Jamboree block party, McAlester Masked Singer, McAlester Mayoral Forum and Autumn at Arvest Park. We have done the Atwood’s hot dog fundraiser 2 times. In 2024 we participated in the Christmas parade and decorated a Christmas Tree for Arvest Park. Our tree won 1st place!

We have had some amazing highs. John Schneider (actor from Smallville & Dukes of Hazard) came to Jaywalk Jamboree in the famous General Lee. Cal Day (KOTV news anchor) moderated the Mayoral Forum. Autumn at Arvest Park has been our most attended event. McAlester Radio won the 2024 Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters for Video Streaming General at KNED for our McAlester Mayoral Forum.

We are currently restructuring our organization and events to better serve the community. We acknowledge things haven’t always gone as smoothly as we would like but we are working to be better. Along with myself and our treasurer, we have formed a committee to help and sometimes reign in my ideas when needed.

Thank you for sticking with us! We are planning bigger and more exciting things, beginning with a fall event. We are already working on a Christmas tree design for Arvest Park.

McAlester Event & Entertainment Team (MEET) is currently undergoing a reorganization to better serve our community and fulfill our mission. While there may be changes in structure, our core purpose remains unchanged. We are committed to improve how we work together internally so that we can be more effective, efficient, and sustainable in delivering the experiences our community values. This transition reflects our dedication to growth and continuous improvement, ensuring that we remain a strong and reliable presence in McAlester for years to come.

Despite these internal changes, our mission stays the same: to provide free, family-friendly events to the McAlester community. We believe in the power of connection, celebration, and shared experiences, and we are passionate about creating spaces where families and neighbors can come together. Whether it’s a concert, seasonal gathering or raising awareness to mental health, our events are designed to be welcoming and fun for all ages. We are excited about the future and look forward to continuing our work with renewed energy and focus.

As part of our exciting new chapter, we’re forming a committee to help us continue bringing events to the community. We’re looking for community-minded, creative, and enthusiastic people to join us! Message us to learn more or get involved.

Thank you to everyone who had a hand in today’s event! Thank you to all of the resources who came out smd volunteered their time, the people who attended and met with them, Mayor Justin Few, MEET volunteers, MEET sponsors and Dream City for allowing us to use their parking lot at the last minute!!!

It was a great event and I’m hopeful that people made a connection and started the conversation with the right resource for them. All it takes is 1 person finding help to make it all worth it! Mental health IS healthcare! 💚
