Behind the camera, behind the scenes, and usually behind on posting.

I have thousands of photos sitting on hard drives, endless client galleries waiting to be shared, and a feed full of work I’m incredibly proud to create. But if I’m being honest, it’s easy to let the work completely swallow up the person making it.

When your passion is your craft, the line between what you do and who you are gets pretty blurry. You spend so much time telling other people’s stories, chasing the light, and curating a polished portfolio that you forget to show the messy, real, everyday stuff that actually makes you... you.

Here’s a quick reminder (mostly for myself) that the person holding the camera matters just as much as the images that come out of it. Work comes and goes, but staying true to yourself is what keeps the creative fire alive.

I woke up in Ensenada, Mexico, went to morning church, and was promptly handed the keys to a rental car. My mission? Drive myself and four passengers back across the US border—something I had never done before.

Shoutout to Google Maps on the Mexican side of the border, because it guided me straight into a line I had absolutely no business being in. Before I knew it, a “Mexican border official” approached my window and broke the news: I was in the wrong lane. He told me my options were simple: turn around and join the main line—which looked like a soul-crushing four-to-six-hour wait—or pay him $100, and he’d let us cut halfway through.

Trusting my gut (and desperately wanting to avoid a six-hour traffic jam), I handed over the cash. He let us through.

Victory felt sweet—until I pulled up to the American border guard. When I told him what happened, he literally laughed in my face.

“Why are you listening to him?” he asked. “He has zero authority over what we do here.”
He was 100% right, and I felt completely dumb.

Long story short: I got scammed $100, but we made it across the border and still arrived to evening service on time.
