INTRODUCING: John Houlstone

John is a Colonel in the Continental Army and was a member of the Salem Militia. John is the grandson of the famous Salem witch, Silence Houlstone. He’s referred to as the Mad Minuteman. He is well-known for his heroism and his belief in his invincibility on the battlefield. John believes he knows how he’s going to die. A fortune teller foretold that he would be killed by a shark. Bolstered by this, John made a name for himself as the mad hero of the Revolution who would take wild risks in combat and remain unscathed. He reveled in the safety of his fortune and vowed to never set foot on a ship in his lifetime. John served at the battle in Lexington and has recently returned from the front in New York and New Jersey. He’s come to collect papers due to the front.

INTRODUCING: Anne Kent (Smythe)

Anne Kent is a fiercely independent woman who was abandoned by her loyalist family. Anne Smythe and George, the son of rebels Anson and Betsy Kent, were betrothed in late March of 1775. When the battle of Lexington launched the war less than a month later George was among the colonial regulars to stand against the British forces. Anne and George married in May. In September 1775, George joined 1100 other men from town to join Colonial Hero Benedict Arnold in his attempt to capture Quebec. It’s been over a year and he has yet to return. Anne wants George home safe and would do anything to protect him. Anne’s family are loyalists who fled America during the evacuation of Boston in March 1776 to return to London. She stayed behind out of love for George. Anne now runs the Smythe Farm alone, waiting for George to come home.

Anne knows George’s rebel parents are keeping something from her. Will she ever be reunited with her husband?
