I’m grateful for the people who fought and died, so that I can be free! For me it was a busy weekend with two weddings. I watched two different families celebrate the love of two different couples. I’m tired and thankful that I get to do what I love. This Memorial Day for me is a day of much needed rest. I’m taking a week off to reset before diving back into proposal revisions and prep for the next wedding. I’m taking some time to celebrate birthdays that happened while I was too busy to give them the attention they deserved. I worked 17 and a half hours yesterday alone. I’m so lucky that I get to work with people I love. People that love the work we do as much as I do. It rained on us a lot this weekend and we still had a great time! It’s important to me to build a company that people want to work with and for. I want to serve my clients well, but it’s just as important that my employees and vendors are happy. I can’t do what I do without them! I hope today is a day of rest and remembrance for you as well. Happy Memorial Day!

If you haven’t been to the DK Gallery on the Marietta Square, you should go! It’s really lovely! The piece I based my arrangement off of is called “Vases and Figs Bowl” and it’s by Catie Baldet. She had several pieces on display. I don’t know a lot about fine art, but the details in the painting are intricate. I appreciate the gallery’s support of local artists. I love to see representations of the square and the surrounding areas. Someday I want to take a painting class. My mom painted, when I was really little. I don’t have any memories of her oil painting, but I have some of her work that I need to put in a prominent spot. She was very artistic and I know I wouldn’t be doing what I do today if it wasn’t for her.

I had so much fun creating a design to go with a piece of artwork at the DK Art Gallery on the Marietta Square! I dropped it off that morning. Then headed to a venue walk through with a client. Afterwards I headed back to the gallery to meet some friends from the garden club and see the other art exhibits. It was a fundraiser for the garden club and a chance to meet some new people.

Flowers die. That is the truth, but they make great gifts for people that don’t need more stuff. Not everything needs to last forever. You will never forget the way the flowers smelled on your wedding day or that one flower your grandmother grew in her yard. Flowers don’t last forever, but the memories we make surrounded by flowers do. I don’t sell Mother’s Day flowers, but reach out directly to a local shop for your purchases or a local flower farm. It’s a gift to the people who are selling them too!

People tell me that they don’t like roses. I think they don’t like grocery store roses. Garden roses and other specialty roses are totally different. They have a fragrance and ruffled petals. They also open so much bigger. Roses might not be the most popular flower right now. People are asking for wildflowers, hydrangeas and delphinium, or calla lilies and hanging amaranthus. But roses will always have my heart! Do you like roses?
