MARBLEMOUNT PUBLIC MEETING SCHEDULED FOR APRIL 2
Skagit County Public Works Department has scheduled a public meeting for Thur., April 2, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Marblemount Community Hall, 60155 SR 20, Marblemount.
Public Works staff will present on the upcoming Marblemount Bridge rehabilitation project, and the impacts of bridge closures this summer on nearby residents. Community members are encouraged to attend and ask questions.
Public Works will hold this public meeting because the impacts of the upcoming Marblemount Bridge closures are anticipated to be much more significant because of the closure on Rockport Cascade Rd. A nearby bridge over Jordan Creek on Rockport Cascade Rd. was washed out during the December 2025 floods and remains closed to traffic. Rockport Cascade Rd. is essential to the detour route required for the Marblemount Bridge rehabilitation project, which started last summer. The project was intended to span two construction seasons in 2025 and 2026, and the original construction sequencing plans allowed the contractor to close the bridge for a period of time during both seasons. If Rockport Cascade Road remains closed because of the bridge washout, then the long duration closures of the Marblemount Bridge will be delayed until such a time when the crossing over Jordan Creek has been restored.
In order to avoid closing public access to the community, Public Works planned earlier this year to lease a temporary bridge for Rockport Cascade Road to ensure there would be an open detour route when the Marblemount Bridge is closed this summer; however, the updated cost estimates for a temporary bridge are well over $2,000,000. Public Works is now seeking to build a permanent fix for Jordan Creek, if funding can be secured, but this will not be completed before the Marblemount Bridge intermittent closures are scheduled to occur.
Public Works is discussing options with the Marblemount Bridge contractor and will be coordinating with local first responders to explore its best options to finish the Marblemount Bridge project while ensuring emergency services can still access the area. Staff will present these options to the community during the upcoming public meeting.
