One of my favorite parts of running Oma’s Cookies is watching families grow. I’ve gotten to cater weddings, baby showers, and birthday parties! I offer free cookies to the expecting parent growing baby. I’ve gotten to watch those babies grow and have to try and hold myself together when they point for the first time to the cookie they want. Some day maybe I’ll cater that little one’s wedding and provide sweet treats to their future families.

Everything moves so fast these days. New trends are popping in and out so quickly I think I have learned to expect something new every day. By slowing down and selling cookies while experiencing my own growing family I have gotten to witness so much joy in the little moments.

I often call myself a lazy baker commenting on the fact that I just make cookies and only cookies. Wasn’t there a time in our lives where that was enough? In fact more than enough? Isn’t making at least one person smile because they enjoyed something tasty amazing?

I think so.

It’s Customer Appreciation week and I am filled with so many stories. ❤️

This passion actually started while I was at Family Video. Before I was the Cookie Lady I was the Video Store Gal. 📼

I managed a great store in Austin, MN with an incredible team. We decided to make community the focus of our store since online streaming was dominating the market.

I knew people were not coming in to rent the latest installment of the Marvel franchise; they were coming in to see what their neighbors are renting. Customers were not driving all the way from their home to rent a movie; they were stopping in to see what Kathy’s favorite pick of the week was. Families would bring their kids in on Friday nights to share in the experience of running around the video store to pick your movie of the week from all the generations’ favorites.

I’ll never forget the day when a Friday regular family came in one day not their usual bubbly selves. I noticed their darker clothes and puffy eyes.
The dad came to ask me about a movie location in the store and informed me they were stopping in after a funeral. His wife’s mother had died and the only thing she wanted to do for some relief was visit the video store. I knew then this really was a second home to a lot of people. We had become a family.

It was absolutely devastating when we had to close. So many years watching families grow and break. Many nights of joy, tears, some anger, but mostly laughs. A lot of laughs with friends. Our customers at Family Video became our friends and our family.

I knew when the video store closed I wanted to find or create a space where I could do that again. Share a little joy, create a space of community connection, and spend time with my new friends and family.

So far Oma’s Cookies and you have given me that.

This week I am going to share some of my favorite moments with my new cookie family. You all have given me so much just by getting a few cookies a week.

This Saturday I hope I can show how much you all mean to me! 🍪 ❤️

I call myself a lazy baker. I get to enjoy exploring new flavors all the time because I know I am always making cookies!

Sometimes the most rewarding experience is the most simple!

I was feeling pretty nostalgic at the Farmer’s Market Saturday. My third season here is starting to come to a close and I can’t but to help of how far I’ve come.

There are times I feel I’m not doing enough and if I am then I’m not doing it right.

Being able to reflect on this journey I’ve been on reminds me that I am doing enough. Every failed bake or bad flavor combination taught me something that helped me make something even better.

Finding compassion and honestly a little sweetness towards myself during these times makes the lessons easier to learn. If I rag myself down it’s harder to move forward.

Gonna keep moving forward one scoop of sugar at a time.

I have a lot of roles. The one that fuels them all though is mom. I became a mother at 20 and felt completely consumed by the future I needed to provide. For a long time I doubted myself. And didn’t provide very well.

There was a day though where I realized just because I am a mom doesn’t mean I can’t go to school, it means I should go to school. Being a mom doesn’t mean I shouldn’t try and provide with my own skills, it means I should. I chase my future so my children know they can chase theirs.

All of my cookie flavors have a little piece of my life in them.

Thank you for enjoying!
