Friends, it is time to start reminding you of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, and how you can help support our runners. Every year, the Special Olympics torch is carried by our Special Olympics Dragon athletes and law enforcement officers from our Ashland Police Division, and heads down Main Street, through our downtown, to end at Corner Park, at Main and Claremont. Every year, we ask you all to take a moment if you are downtown, and pop out of the store or business that you are supporting, to cheer on our runners and athletes as they come through downtown.

And every year, you all do so. Thank you!

I will be sending out reminders and updates the day of the race, so you know approximately when the runners will be coming through downtown. (We aim for 4, but that doesn't always happen.)

Now, you may be saying, "Sandra, but it is only May. Why are we talking about the Torch Run so early?" Well, we have some exciting news; this year, the race is being run a full month earlier than usual, on May 28th, which means it won't be the hottest and most humid day of the year for a jog down the asphalted streets of Ashland! This is also good news if you have ever thought about supporting the race as a runner- you can click on the QR code right here to do so, and not worry about turning into a puddle when it's time to run.

We love to watch our law enforcement runners, our Special Olympic athletes, and all of their supports come through downtown with THE Special Olympic torch, as it goes to Columbus for the Special Olympic games. We also love to see so many of you lining the streets and cheering along with us. Mark your calendar for the 28th, follow our facebook event, and be prepared to be bombarded with reminders to join us on the sidewalks (honestly, we recommend coming downtown first thing that day and hanging out shopping and eating until it's time for the Torch Run. It makes your life so much easier!)
