Maggie Quinn Commonwheel Artists Artist of the Month for June is at Commonwheel Artists Co-op. Her porcelain and wood-fire pottery, and all of her art that will also be in the Creekside Gallery for the June show “The Wood” will be on sale for 10% off.
Colorado Springs has been home to Maggie Quinn for her entire life. Her College education in various places is the foundation for her study of the arts. Classical drawing and painting, jewelry design, photography, and pottery were major courses of study. She takes time to study with top ceramicists from around the globe. Seeing new artists and learning new techniques have added a sense of current influence to her work today. The camaraderie and risk that comes from firing clay to temperatures of 2,300°F or more, in a hand fed wood burning kiln, has embedded the lifestyle of the potter into her being. Forms in nature serve as a muse, all media the platform, while ceramics remain the passion of her creation. Original hand drawn sepia ink images are often subject matter for her ceramic canvases. Come to the opening on Friday to meet Maggie Quinn and learn more about her process of firing her ceramic art.
