In three days time we begin the celebrations of pride month. A time where every performer, producer, activist, community leader and more shift into overdrive to provide memorable experiences for our communities. It’s important to remember that while yes, we’re all busy throwing block parties and shows, pride month is about much more than that. The emotions that run through our community need to be felt in their fullest extent - the happiness and celebration of strides we have made, the mourning and grief of loved ones lost who don’t get to see this and most importantly the determination and focus of the continued battles ahead. Before we start the parties, before the parades kick off, before the speeches begin - take a step back and breathe. Reflect on all of the work you’ve done throughout the year outside of Pride month, be proud of everything you’ve put together and fought for. We must keep in mind that the fight continues after the fun and after the parties. Until our trans siblings, our BIPOC family members, our gender non conforming friends are treated equally our fight continues. Until ALL members within our community are treated equally and celebrated equally, the fight continues.
Remember, this month is for US! We’re putting this work in for ourselves and the other members of our community. Let’s celebrate that.
